Breakfast: Luxmy and Charlie issue an apology to viewers

BBC Breakfast host Luxmy Gopal was forced to issue an apology to viewers on Friday morning - before her co-host Charlie Stayt had a word of warning for a journalist.

David Sillito was reporting on a music festival in Bristol this weekend headed by the band Massive Attack where revellers are encouraged to leave their cars at home as there's no car park.

Taking place on Clifton Downs, all the food will be vegan, all the loos will be compostable and there will be vans containing large batteries occasionally recharging other large batteries around the site, instead of having diesel generators to power the stage and stalls.

After the BBC Arts Correspondent looked at the public transport options, which includes extra trains laid on the the event, he ended his report riding his trusty bike down a hill - and the squeaking brakes were eveident.

Back in the studio, Luxmy told viewers: "Sorry for your ears there, that was David Sillito on a very creaky bike." Charlie chipped in a warning to David adding: "He should check his brakes."

The report came after a somewhat chaotic start to Friday's breakfast show when Charlie and Luxmy were caught offguard by the cameras.

As the cameras panned to the studios at 5.56am to look at what was coming up on the show at 6am, the presenters were far from ready. Charlie, who was still adjusting his clothes, said: "Good morning and welcome to BBC Breakfast with Luxmy Gopal and Charlie Stayt."

Luxmy, who was still having her hair teased by her hairdresser, calmly said: "The headlines today...." before a clip of the headlines starting with the US Presidential elections was beamed to viewers.

BBC Breakfast is on BBC One weekdays at 6am
