The popular BBC show Escape to the Country delivered a delightful surprise when a beautiful bungalow presented an unexpected choice for a couple's housing search.

On Tuesday (August 20), Alistair Appleton returned to the cherished afternoon favourite to aid Liz and John in their pursuit of a serene Wiltshire retreat, away from the city's bustle, for themselves and their daughter, Emily.

With a precise wish list in hand, including the need for outdoor space for John's work, the couple hoped to find a home that met all their criteria. However, the mystery house's unveil astonished them.

Though not initially considering a bungalow, Liz and John were captivated by its potential. Reflecting on the visit, John remarked: "I think Alistair has thrown us a bit of a curveball with this one."

His commentary didn't end there, as he revealed his feelings: "It's very interesting and not what we were expecting at all. The house for me has lots of things we want", reports the Mirror.

He elaborated, praising the features: "It's got a double garage, it's got the space! It's got a beautiful garden but it just doesn't have the feel."

Liz weighed in on the decision, illustrating their quandary: "I think probably this is head - centre of the village, across the road from the pub. But the house number two is heart."

The eye-catching bungalow made a lasting effect, even prompting fans on X (formerly Twitter) to advise: "Think long term as you get older you can't do stairs."

At the end of the show, when Alistair inquired which of the prospective dwellings had caught their eye, the pair unhesitatingly picked out the second property as their favourite.

They further disclosed to Alistair their plans to take a second look at house number two and consider bringing in their daughter for her input, indicating a strong inclination towards making an offer on what could be their ideal home.

Liz clarified, "I think we'll talk to Emily about the accommodation for her and then I think we'll contact the agent and hopefully go back for another look."

When pressed by Alistair if they were nearing a decision to bid, Liz confirmed with a straightforward "Yes".

Escape to the Country airs weekdays at 3pm on BBC One.
