There's a lot of noise around All Creatures Great and Small at the moment for two major reasons. Earlier this year, the Channel 5 drama announced filming was underway for the fifth series and would include the return of Callum Woodhouse, who plays the charming Tristan Farnon.

What's more, the beloved series, which is based on best-selling author James Herriot's iconic collection of stories, has also found a new home on Netflix. For those with the streaming service in the UK, series one will be made available on Wednesday, August 14.

All Creatures Great and Small was revived back in 2020, airing on Channel 5. The family-friendly drama is set in the 1930s in Yorkshire and follows the previous BBC series of the same name that aired back in the late 70s.

So far, four series of All Creatures Great and Small have aired on Channel 5, with the fourth instalment airing in October 2023. Back in February, Channel 5 bosses announced the show had been recommissioned for a season five and six. Here's what we know.

Filming is underway for series five of All Creatures Great and Small. In February 2024, Channel 5 announced the the double commission of series five and six of its hit series.

Series five and six will both consist of six hour-long episodes each plus Christmas specials. We also know that returning to the ensemble during series five will be Callum Woodhouse as Tristan Farnon. His character was missing because he was called up to serve in the Royal Army Veterinary Corps.

Also returning for the fifth series is Nicholas Ralph as vet James Herriot, and Samuel West as his mercurial mentor Siegfried Farnon. Anna Madeley returns as the matriarch of Skeldale House, Mrs Hall along with Rachel Shenton as the charismatic Helen Herriot.

James Anthony-Rose also reappears as Richard Carmody. Also returning is Patricia Hodge as the wonderfully sophisticated Mrs Pumphrey, and her adored pampered Pekingese Tricki.

Channel 5 said: "The series will continue to bring the stories of James Herriot to life as we return to Darrowby to rejoin our unconventional much loved Skeldale Family and the colourful ensemble of farmers, animals and townsfolk living in the Yorkshire Dales in the 1940s."

And while we know the cast and plot for series five of All Creatures Great and Small, Channel 5 are yet to release an air date, However, filming for the new series is now underway on location in Yorkshire.
