GMB: Marverine Cole reads out breaking news story

Good Morning Britain's Marverine Cole kicked off her segment with a dramatic announcement of "breaking news" on Tuesday morning.

As co-hosts Trisha Goddard and Richard Madeley looked on, Marverine informed the audience: "Let's start with some breaking news."

She delivered the grave update: "The Metropolitan Police have charged Ioan Pintaru with the attempted murder of an 11-year-old girl, who was stabbed in London's Leicester Square."

Detailing the harrowing incident, she added: "Authorities have praised security guard Abdullah., whose bravery disarmed the 32-year-old knifeman and the force confirmed the girl's injuries are not life-threatening.", reports the Mirror.

Ioan Pintaru, of no fixed address, was charged with attempted murder and possession of a bladed article. He was remanded in custody to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court later this morning.

Police were called to Leicester Square at 11.34am on Monday, 12 August after receiving reports of a stabbing.

An 11-year-old girl was found with stab wounds and was rushed to hospital where her injuries, while serious, were assessed as non-life threatening.

It was initially believed that the girl's mother, a 34-year-old woman, was also hurt, but it was later confirmed that blood from her daughter's injuries had been mistaken for injuries of her own.

A chorus of praise continued with a fan posting, "I love Trisha very much, she is a very talented journalist," and another adding, "Lovely to see you Trisha."

GMB airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
