GMB: Zarah Sultana clashes with Ed Balls

Kate Garraway was forced to step in and apologise on Good Morning Britain this morning (August 5) as her co-star Ed Balls clashed with show guest MP Zarah Sultana. The conversation became heated as the presenters and the politician discussed the riots that erupted across the UK over the weekend.

On Sunday, Sir Keir Starmer delivered an emergency press conference from Downing Street, where he doubled down on his cold fury aimed at "far-right thugs" continuing to wreak havoc on Britain's streets. However, Ms Sultana pointed out that he had failed to call the riots "islamaphobic" or "racist", while appearing on ITV's GMB.

Ed replied: "They have called it racist", while Kate interrupted her saying: "No, no." She stuttered her words before adding: "Sorry, but we do have to ask you questions as well."

Former politician Ed swiped at the MP as he said: "If you want, you can answer them as well." Ms Sultana hit back as she said: "I'm going to wait for Kate to finish her question if that's ok?"

But as Kate continued trying to ask why using the word "Islamophobia" was so important to the MP, Ed continued to interrupt. Eventually, Ms Sultana asked: "Can I finish Ed, if that's ok?"

Fans online urged for GMB to "get Ed off" as they complained on X (formerly Twitter). One wrote: "Garraway says in a passive aggressive way 'We have to ask you questions'.

Then when Zarah provides her answer, Balls constantly interrupts and talks over her. @GMB Get Balls off, he cannot ever be impartial being Mr Yvette Cooper."

Another wrote: "Ed Balls is married to the Home Secretary, Yvette Cooper, it is not ok to use him to host this interview."

A third penned: "That p***k Ed Balls is Yvette Coppers husband what more can I say.

"He shouldn’t be on the program he is going to be bias. On who he supports ex Labour MP etc."

Someone else shared: "We will never have a free and impartial media while the Home Secretary’s husband is allowed to shout down dissenting MPs from the presenter’s chair of a nationally broadcast news and politics discussion programme."

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV and ITVX
