Huw Edwards is to be digitally removed from a 2006 episode of Doctor Who where he appeared.
The respected broadcaster, aged 62, had a guest role as a newsreader in the episode titled 'Fear Her', which depicted a young girl haunted by an evil entity resembling her late abusive father.
Doctor Who, a flagship family show for the BBC, featured Edwards, a father of five who has allegedly separated from his wife Vicky Flind, in a role mirroring his real-life profession.
BBC executives are planning to dub over Edwards' lines with another actor's voice. An insider commented: "It's going to be hard for the BBC to airbrush Huw out of news events he covered, but the Doctor Who episode should be straightforward."
Set against the backdrop of the then-future London 2012 Olympic Games, the story stars David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor and Billie Piper as his companion Rose Tyler. Throughout the episode, Edwards' voice is a recurring element, initially informing viewers about the progress of the Olympic torch relay and later describing the atmosphere of the opening ceremony, reports the Mirror.
His character's key scene occurs when Chloe Webber, the story's central troubled child, causes a mass disappearance at the sports stadium, prompting Edwards to exclaim in disbelief: "My God, what's going on here?
"The crowd has just vanished, right in front of my eyes. It's impossible. Bob, can we go to you in the box? Bob? Not you too?"
The youngster astonishingly made 80,000 spectators and 13,000 athletes vanish before Edwards exclaimed in shock: "This is a terrible turn of events."
