Charles Rae comments on Harry and Meghan's Colombia visit

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have shocked people with their latest move, which former royal correspondent, Charles Rae, branded to be "dangerous". The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will undertake a four-day visit to Colombia later this summer after being invited to the country by the vice president, Francia Marquez.

They are said to be planning to spend time in the capital, Bogota, as well as the Caribbean and Pacific regions of Cartagena and Cali. Multiple destinations and activities have been lined up in what many will see as another imitation royal tour, following their recent trip to Nigeria.

Speaking to GB News about the couples' decision, the royal expert said: "The UK Foreign Office advises against travel to certain parts of Colombia. Cali, which is one of the places that they're going to, being one of them."

Charles went on to explain that the United States warns its citizens planning to visit Columbia of kidnapping and civil unrest. Charles continued: "I'm not suggesting that Meghan and Harry are in any danger of being kidnapped, because they'll have total security, but it is ridiculous."

Speaking about the recent security row between Harry and his dad, King Charles, Mr Rae added: "This guy is fighting Britain because he says it's too dangerous for him to bring his wife here. That's the wife that doesn't really want to come here in any case, and yet he has accepted an invitation with his wife to go to Columbia. As we say, Don, you couldn't make it up."

Their visit will focus on "cyberbullying, online exploitation and the mental health impacts of these threats" - a cause Harry and Meghan have been keen to shine a light on ever since they stepped down as senior royals in 2020.

A statement by Francia Márquez released on Thursday read: "As the Vice President of Colombia and Minister of Equality and Equity, I am pleased to announce that Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, have kindly accepted my invitation to visit our beautiful country.

"During their trip, the Duke and Duchess will join me in visiting Bogotá, as well as the Caribbean and Pacific regions of Cartagena and Cali.

"In these vibrant locations, they will have the exceptional opportunity to engage with leaders, youth, and women who embody the aspirations and voices of Colombians committed to progress.

"In addition to these meaningful interactions, the Duke and Duchess will experience the rich heritage of Colombia."

Back in May, Harry and Meghan spent several days in Nigeria, where they met schoolchildren, diplomats and servicemen and women in what had all the traditional hallmarks of an official visit from the Firm.
