Jeremy Vine was forced to intervene on his Channel 5 show today as former MP Andrea Jenkyns made a sly dig towards Meghan Markle. The 50-year-old Tory was inundated with backlash after a sharp-tongued four-word remark about the wife of Prince Harry.
Ms Jenkyns had been discussing an image of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Meghan and Harry, when she made the "joke". She and Jeremy were joking about a previous picture of the Sussexes, who were behind a guard's furry, which they said looked like an animal, as the politican chimed in to slyly say: "Is that her mum?" referring to the former Suits actress.
At that point, Jeremy stepped in to defend the royal. He said: "Come on now, you've seen Meghan before. You know that's not her mum."
But the damage had already been done as fans flooded social media with a frenzy of complaints. One X (formerly Twitter) user fumed: "It's not difficult to understand why Andrea Jenkyns got booted out. She's rude and vile. The mystery is why anyone would vote for her in the first place."
Someone else questioned: "Why is the woman's default position to hate Meghan markle? Is it a shoes thing? Maybe a handbag thing? Women are complicated. #JeremyVine."
"A difficult watch today with guest Andrea Jenkyns on the panel. I've found almost everything she says objectionable," another user posted.
A fourth social media user said: "Andrea Jenkyns on #jeremyvine. This is a new low. @andreajenkyns @itn @channel5_tv." While another wrote: "#jeremyvine Awful woman Yes Andrea that's you Switching over, can't watch that."
The swipe comes as a royal photographer hit out at the Sussexes for causing King Charles to "miss out" on time with his grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lillibet.
It was recently revealed by a source that the Sussexes will not be joining the annual royal summer holiday at Balmoral this year, with the couple maintaining it is not safe to bring their children back to the UK due to their lack of royal security.

Arthur Edwards, who has been snapping pictures of the Firm for decades, said that the children will suffer as a result of this decision.
He said: "King Charles has been going to Balmoral since he was a child. One thing I feel sorry for is Prince Harry's children. They don't have the summers at Balmoral with their cousins.
"It's an amazing place. It's got rivers, mountains, wild deer, it's a most beautiful part of the world, let alone just Great Britain.
"Listen, [Harry's] not only denying the King seeing his grandchildren. He's denying Archie and Lilibet from seeing their cousins George, Charlotte and Louis."
