Ed Balls and Ranvir Singh discuss Southport incident
Good Morning Britain fans "switched off" after feeling offended by a comment made by presenter Ed Balls. The former Labour MP was at the helm of the ITV show, with co-host Ranvir Singh, when the topic shifted to the riots that happened in Southport, following the murders of three little girls.
Last night (July 31), further riots broke out in Westminster and Hartlepool. Ed introduced the topic as he said: "Over to Nick now.
"We were reporting 24 hours ago on the terrible riots in Southport on Tuesday night but now we've had riots and arrests in Hartlepool last night and now also Downing Street.
"The street violence has literally reached the Prime Minister's door step and Keir Starmer has called a meeting with police leaders today." But as the discussion went on, fans at home accused Ed of being too "opinionated" and "grinning" while talking about tragedy.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter) one user complained: "What on earth is happening to @GMB...for an (alleged) news programme to be this appallingly opinionated with language NOT at all based in facts or journalism, presenters just forcing their opinions and their own personnal views is an awful look, viewers will just switch off."

Another added: "Ravier Sing, & Ed balls using very strong language about the rioters in #Southport
Didnt see this strong language about the troubles in Leeds the other week#GMB #GoodMorningBritain".
"@GMB Oh and get rid of that smug Balls, why does he always look like he is grinning even when talking about bad stuff? No wonder people switch off get some decent presenters," someone else commented.
A third penned: "@richardgaisford @GMB It was a mostly peaceful protest, no need to use such inflammatory rhetoric!"

Officers were called to Hart Street, Southport, at 11.50am on Monday following a mass stabbing at a Taylor Swift-themed dance and yoga workshop for children at the Hart Space.
On Monday, Merseyside Police arrested the 17-year-old from Banks on suspicion of murder and attempted murder in connection to the stabbing.
The unnamed teenager has been charged with the murders of Bebe King, Elsie Dot Stancombe and Alice Dasilva Aguiar. The suspect has also been charged with 10 counts of attempted murder and possession of a bladed article.
