GMB's Ed Balls claims Strictly pros 'have crossed a line' after two stars axed

Ed Balls says small number of Strictly pros 'crossed a line'

During Wednesday's episode of Good Morning Britain, hosts Kate Garraway and Ed Balls discussed the latest Strictly Come Dancing controversies with ex-pro dancer Erin Boag.

The talk quickly pivoted to recent actions by the BBC programme, which decided to introduce chaperones in rehearsals following several complaints. Ed, having danced on the show himself remarked: "We were alone a good half the time."

He added, referring to the tough training required: "Isn't it the case, if you get someone like me or Richard [Arnold], you need your partner to be tough as that's the only way you learn."

On reports of misconduct, he noted: "When you get it wrong you have to be motivated. It feels as though, it's a couple of instances, we don't know how many, but a small number, they've crossed a line."

He stressed for him and his peers, such issues never arose: "It's gone from being tough to being unsupportive and even worse, that's the problem, but for us, that never happened," reports OK!.

Erin shared insights into the challenges faced by dancers, saying: "You are exhausted, you are pushed beyond your limits. We have a certain amount of hours, and days, to get ready to go back every week with a different dance in front of a nation, in front of millions of people."

She concluded by highlighting the stress levels involved: "So, everybody is under pressure, that sort of makes the show. If it was easy, it's not great viewing, is it?

"So there is that added pressure and it is that mental side of things, we're not just their partners, we're sort of their counsellors."

In recent developments, Strictly Come Dancing has been steeped in controversy, particularly surrounding allegations by last year's contestant Amanda Abbington.

She's accused her former dance partner Giovanni Pernice of what she perceived as bullying behaviour during rehearsals; claims Giovanni vehemently denies.

Meanwhile, Graziano Di Prima was also axed from the show due to incriminating footage captured during his stint with celebrity Zara McDermott.
