Phillip Schofield's former This Morning co-star Holly Willoughby is gearing up for her return to screens this autumn, but Phillip's TV future is said to be "doomed", according to a PR specialist.

Phillip presented This Morning alongside Holly for more than a decade, with the pair once being dubbed television royalty. However, Phillip has been out of the spotlight following his huge fall from grace in 2023, but there have been talks he might star on Celebrity Big Brother when it returns.

Speaking on behalf of Betfred, Celebrity PR Specialist Kayley Cornelius said: “ITV has sent a clear message to Phillip Schofield by deliberately editing him out of old interviews aired on This Morning as it’s now evident that there's no space for Phil to return to ITV, and may have jeopardised his plans for a TV comeback.

“This setback has likely thrown a spanner in the works for any plans Phil had to revive his career. Especially after the Huw Edwards scandal and the ongoing controversy at Strictly Come Dancing, these incidents have shown TV bosses that there's no room for error when casting stars."

She claimed rival broadcasters are on high alert, fearing mass cancellation, saying it "makes it less likely that anyone will take the risk of featuring Phil alone on any of their programs, including I’m a Celebrity or Celebrity Big Brother".

However, she added: “However, one saving grace for his career could be making amends with Holly Willoughby.

"It's evident that Phil is currently in operation to mend fences with industry friends, as he knows that the more support he has, the smoother his return to the industry will be.

"With many of Phil’s former colleagues now meeting with him and supporting his social media comeback, and with Craig Doyle recently speaking out in his defence, Holly is the last remaining piece of the puzzle."

Holly has been announced as the host of the ITV series 'You Bet' alongside Stephen Mulhern who replaced Phillip on last year's Dancing on Ice.

The iconic series used to be presented by Bruce Forsyth followed by Matthew Kelly, then Darren Day.

Katie Rawcliffe, Head of Entertainment Commissioning ITV, said: “You Bet! is part of a stellar entertainment lineup for ITV and ITVX this Autumn, and we are thrilled to have Holly Willoughby and Stephen Mulhern at the helm."

The aim of the game is for a celebrity panel and studio audience to predict whether each challenger will be able to carry out outrageous tasks for the chance of walking away with a cash prize.

The audience votes for its favourite challenger at the end of the show, and the winner will take home £10,000.

The celebrity with the top score will win £10,000 for their chosen charity, but the famous face with the lowest score must do a forfeit.
