Coronation Street legend hints at 'trouble' for iconic couple as familiar face returns

TM: Alan Halsall teases upcoming storyline for Corrie's Tyrone

Coronation Street star Alan Halsall has teased trouble for his character Tyrone Hobbs in forthcoming episodes as an ex-girlfriend returns. The 41-year-old has been acting on the ITV show for nearly 26 years, and after nearly two decades of breaking-up and getting back together it seems Tyrone and his partner Fiz Dobbs (Jennie McAlpine) are finally settled down.

But there could be trouble in paradise for Tyrone when Alina Pop, played by Ruxandra Porojnicu, makes a surprise return to the cobbles.

The character was introduced in 2019 when Seb Franklin (Harry Visinoni) found Alina had been trafficked into the UK to work at a nail salon. Her ‘boss’ had confiscated her passport to prevent her returning to her native country.

After setting up a home in Weatherfield, it wasn’t long before Alina drove a wedge between Tyrone and his long-term partner Fiz.

When their nine year relationship came to an end, Tyrone and Alina moved into the salon flat together. But Tyrone’s pyromaniac daughter Hope (Isabella Flanagan) wasn’t impressed with their relationship, and lit a fire in the flat which caused Alina to miscarry a baby and she left in 2021.

But after three years away, Alina returns during Wednesday's episode of the ITV soap (August 7).

Speaking about what Alina's return means for Tyrone, Alan Halsall appeared on Wednesday's episode of This Morning (August 7) to tease problems between the former couple.

He said: "This is soapland of course there is going to be trouble, and it is going to fall on Tyrone's doorstep."

Host Josie Gibson asked the actor what Fiz's reaction is going to be when she bumps into Alina, wondered if viewers can expect to see conflict between the two women.

Alan said: "Well, of course there could be. But I think this may be a real test, or a testament. to Tyrone and Fizz's new marriage."

Fizz and Tyrone tied the knot on Christmas Day in 2022 after sharing their first kiss in 2011.

"I think anyone would feel threatened", Alan said explaining Fiz's reaction to Alina. "I think Tyrone would want to reassure Fizz now their relationship is different.

"But obviously Alina turning back up and also having a surprise as well, that Fizz finds out about, sure it's going to make her think about her relationship."

He added: "Then Tyrone has got a juggling act of trying to keep everyone happy."

But will Alina cause the couple to break-up once more? Fans will have to watch the drama unfold.
