Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim was reportedly informed that Marcus Rashford had been out in Manchester less than 48 hours before a match against Everton, before the star forward was dropped from the squad completely.
The Athletic claims that Amorim asked Rashford about the night in question, which those close to the player denies took place, but he was then excluded from the starting lineup against Arsenal three days later and has since been exiled from the group.
Rashford said that his head coach was misinformed about an alleged late night, and even scored twice against Everton in a 4-0 victory, but has largely been sidelined by the new Portuguese boss.
Rashford has started just one match since that drubbing of Everton, a Europa League clash with Viktoria Plzen. He has made substitute appearances against Arsenal and Nottingham Forest.
Amorim has already confirmed that the 27-year-old will miss the trip to Liverpool on Sunday through illness, but his future at Old Trafford appears bleak, with rumours aplenty over a possible move away in January.
Amorim has a strict rule about players attending bars within such a close timeframe to matches and has publicly claimed that Rashford's absence has been the player's own making.

“It depends more on him than me,” he told Sky Sports on Friday regarding Rashford. “He has to want it really, really bad. He’s here. He’s ready to play if I decide.”
Amorim held talks with INEOS chiefs after defeating local rivals Manchester City over Rashford and he has the backing of those above him regarding treatment of the forward.
Talks are expected to take place shortly over a potential move, after Rashford admitted that he was ready for a "new challenge" going forward.
Finding a willing suitor for Rashford may be a stumbling block for the club, however, unless they are prepared to subsidise his current salary.
He has already turned down the prospect of heading to the Saudi Pro League, in an attempt to salvage his England career under new boss Thomas Tuchel ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
Napoli have emerged as a potential landing spot, with rumours circulating over a swap deal involving Victor Osimhen, but the Serie A club would unlikely be able to match Rashford's reported £325,00-a-week wages.
