Cody Gakpo is eagerly hoping that Liverpool's talisman Mohamed Salah puts pen to paper on a new contract with the club. Salah, whose current deal expires at season's end, has yet to reach an agreement on an extension and has been vocal about the stalled negotiations.

The 32-year-old Egyptian icon is also free to negotiate with foreign clubs from January 1.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding his Anfield future, Salah continues to deliver stellar performances, including a brace in Liverpool's recent 6-3 triumph over Tottenham in North London.

With 15 Premier League goals this season, he's climbed to fourth in Liverpool's all-time top scorers list.

Dutch international Gakpo has expressed his admiration, saying: "It is special what we are all witnessing."

He praised Salah's dual threat of scoring and assisting, highlighting his impact on fellow attackers and midfielders. "I hope for us and for him that he can continue doing that for a long time," he added.

"We are very lucky to have him and proud that we can be his team-mate and try to make him better. And he is trying to make us better as well."

Gakpo himself is enjoying a rich vein of form, having scored nine goals this season, seven of which came in his last 12 appearances. This run arguably marks the high point of his Liverpool career, following an impressive display at the 2022 World Cup.

"I enjoy every minute I'm here," the 25-year-old expressed. "It has been a fantastic two years for myself. A lot of things happened obviously – a lot of good moments, some less good moments but a lot of things that I've learned.
