Mason Mount is facing a potential lengthy absence following a leg injury sustained during Manchester United's derby triumph over Manchester City. The midfielder was forced to depart the game just 14 minutes in, leaving the field in visible distress.

Post-match, the 25-year-old, who has battled with fitness since his move from Chelsea to Old Trafford, was 'really, really sad' as confirmed by locker room sources.

Mount's outlook appears bleak, with talkSPORT suggesting a March comeback at best.

Red Devils manager Ruben Amorim has already indicated a 'several weeks' layoff, but recent updates hint at an even more extended recovery period.

Amorim remarked: "I don't know the exact date, but it's going to be for long. And that's it, it's part of football and you continue."

Amid this setback, the head coach plans to integrate Mount into his tactical setup during the healing process.

Amorim emphasized his dedication to support: "What I can do is to help Mase, to teach him how to play our game when he's recovering," aiming to employ this rehabilitation timeframe constructively. He also addressed the training limitations due to injury woes, "To try to use that time for him to think about different things. I think the worst part is that we don't have time to train like we should do, when you are recovering from a lot of injuries.

"With Mason Mount, we are going to help him. It is really hard for a player to be out for so long and is trying really hard, the same for me. If they try really hard, we will help them until the end."

Mount has already expressed his heartbreak over his latest injury setback. The England star is determined to bounce back stronger for Manchester United, saying: "Words can't portray how devastated I'm feeling right now, you could probably see the look on my face when it happened. I knew what it meant.

"United fans, you may not know me too well yet, but one thing I can guarantee, I will never give up or lose faith. I've said this before, but I will continue to give everything, get through this tough period and won't stop until that's achieved."
