Jermaine Jenas laughs at One Show guest's suggestive comment

Jermaine Jenas claimed that he was ‘chucked into the hot seat’ whilst presenting for talkSPORT on Thursday evening, just moments after it emerged that the pundit had been sacked by the BBC.

The former Tottenham and Newcastle star has been dismissed after the broadcaster launched an internal investigation following complains of ‘inappropriate behaviour’. A spokesperson for the BBC confirmed the news, saying: “We can confirm that he is no longer part of our presenting line up.”

Jenas featured regularly on Match of the Day and The One Show but his career now looks set to take a turn in an opposite direction. The 41-year-old has spent time working on radio recently, and his appearance on Drive Live with talkSPORT coincided with the emergence of his sacking.

Covering for usual-host Andy Goldstein, Jenas opened the show by revealing that he was standing in for the presenter. He went on to say: “We’re here aren’t we? They have chucked me right into the hot seat.”

Fellow ex-footballer Darren Belt also featured during the opening stages of the show, and the former striker joked about how tricky the presenting duties would be. Jenas replied: “I've known you (Bent) since I was seven years old and you have never made my life easy.”

Ex-Portsmouth winger Jermaine Pennant also joined Jenas in the talkSPORT studio, and the trio focused their conversation on on-pitch matters rather than the BBC situation. Chelsea was the main topic of discussion during the early stages of the show.

Jenas was previously tipped to become the host of Match of the Day when Gary Lineker steps down from his presenting duties, having anchored the show since 1999. However, his chances of landing the gig appear to have been crushed.

Speaking earlier this year to the Daily Mail about links to the hosting role, Jenas said: “I would obviously be up for it… it's Match of the Day and it would be a great opportunity.

"I haven't thought that far ahead but I hosted Match of the Day 2 on Sunday night, which was the first one I've ever done. I loved it, it felt comfortable to me, it felt normal, and I love doing The One Show as well.

“I feel quite blessed that I'm even in people's minds that it's something I could take on given how big the show actually is.

"Gary has got plenty of legs in him and I don't see him going anywhere soon but when that day comes which it will do, I would like to think that I am at least thought about to fill the position. If that is the case then I would obviously jump at it."
