The Chase fans were left up in arms when one player's "correct" answer was banned in a heated head-to-head round.

During Friday’s visit (Dec 31) to the ITVstudios, beloved gameshow host Bradley Walsh welcomed four new quizzers onto the show looking to put their general knowledge to the test.

As fans tuned in for the primetime show, the former Coronation Street star introduced contestants Claire, Alec, Maeve and Mahesh onto the programme where they battled it out to take home the all-important cash prize.

This week, the quartet went up against Darragh ‘The Menace’ Ennis who made sure to bring his A-game as he faced off against the wise players.

But fans were soon blasted the show after TV bosses refused a “correct” answer given by one of the players.

Vice Principal Maeve was first up to build up some money in her cash builder round. As she vegan answering questions, she gave the answer “Donna Summers” to a music question, before Bradley replied “Donna Summer” removing the S from her surname and disallowing the answer, depriving her of an extra £1k from her prize pot.

Fans felt this was unfair, give that she clearly got the answer correct.

Fans rushed to social media to blast the decision, with some saying it was “harsh” and hypercritical.

“Yet again Walsh shows how corrupt he is @ITV #thechase Todayrefused the answer Donna Summer because the contestant said Summers A few days ago the chaser was asked what EST stands for, the response was Eastern Seaboard Time … no … it’s Eastern Standard Time …. He accepted,” blasted one fan.

Another added: “Donna Summer is in Donna Summers! She said the full name. Christ that was harsh!”

A third griped: “Oh let her have Donna Summer, just because she added an S at the end doesn’t make it wrong. If she said Rosie Gaines then that is wrong.”

She only bagged £2k overall and was unable to make it back after being sent home by The Menace.

Some fans also noticed that the player bore a striking resemblance to two well-known Brits – former Prime Minister Liz Truss and Corrie icon Mavis Riley.

“Is that Mavis Riley from Corrie in seat 1?…” asked one fan on X.

“She looks like Mavis Riley from Corrie,” agreed a second.

“What's Liz Truss doing on #thechase About as useless,” quipped another fan.

While more added: “Dead ringer for Liz Truss ain't she....

“ and “The real Liz Truss lasted longer than her. #TheChase Quite an achievement.”
