The Chase: Jenny Ryan beats contestant's score of 18

The Chase viewers were left devastated after one player narrowly missed out on taking home their winnings.

Bradley Walsh returned with a new episode of the ITV programme on Wednesday (November 27), welcoming Moyra, Sarah, Umar and Ciaran into the studio.

First up against Jenny Ryan was Moyra, who racked up an impressive £5,000 in the cash builder. Aware of the 64-year-old's knowledge, the rest of the team urged her to either go high or take the middle offer.

Moira ultimately decided to stick with the middle offer and became the first player in the final chase. The second to go head-to-head with The Vixen was Sarah, who also answered five questions correctly in the cash builder.

Despite being tempted by the low offer of £1,000, she also opted for the middle offer. However, this is when things started to go downhill for the team.

Sarah was quickly caught by the chaser before the same happened to Umar. That left 25-year-old Ciaran, who was urged to take the high offer by Moyra as she insisted they had nothing to lose.

And that's exactly what he did, choosing to play for £75,000.

Unfortunately, the maths and english tutor was caught after just two questions, leaving Moyra alone with £5,000 to win in the final chase.

Despite standing on her own, Moyra answered a whopping 18 questions correctly, one of the highest scores displayed by a solo player in the final chase.

"I had a feeling," Jenny said as she returned. "I wouldn't put anything past Moyra, that was a really great performance."

However, Jenny's form was too difficult to beat on the day as she caught Moyra's score of 18 with 22 seconds remaining.

Viewers of The Chase were completely heartbroken by the outcome as they took to social media to declare that Moyra deserved to walk away with the money.

"Be proud Moyra…you did bloody great! Gutted for ya," wrote one fan as another agreed: "What a shame Moyra. You can hold your head high."

A third shared: "Don't tell her she needed another player! That's absolutely what she didn't need, I bet they would have got less, because of the amount of time lost in pressing the buzzers & they might have buzzed in & passed or got something wrong. Moyra was brilliant, well done."

Another demanded: "Give Moyra the £5K. That was a great single player Final Chase," as a fifth echoed: "Wow she deserves every penny!"
