Strictly Come Dancing star Pete Wicks said he has received cruel death threats during his time on the BBC show. The reality star, 36, has been on the receiving end of backlash after making it through to the quarter-final while some higher-scoring celebrities have been voted out.

He made the confession on his Staying Relevant podcast alongside his professional dance partner, Jowita Przystal.

She is standing in for Pete’s co-host Sam Thompson as he is currently in Australia hosting the I’m A Celeb spin-off, I’m A Celebrity...Unpacked.

Revealing the vile messages he had received from trolls, the TOWIE star said: “Since Strictly, there have been some real crackers.

“Someone actually wished death upon me on the dance floor the other day.”

Jowita replied: “Really?” before Pete relayed that a troll had written: “Let's all keep our fingers crossed that he gets booted out and breaks both legs slipping on the floor.”

Pete apologised to fans after the results show on Sunday as he was saved while Jamie Borthwick was eliminated.

The EastEnders star and his professional partner Michelle Tsiakkas faced the dance-off against Olympian Montell Douglas and her partner Johannes Radebe.

Jamie and Michelle reprised their Foxtrot to Stand By Me by Ben E King, which earned them a score of 32 from the judges during Saturday's live show.

Meanwhile, Montell and Johannes performed their Quickstep to Get Happy by Ella Fitzgerald again in a bid to impress the judges. They had received a score of 37 for the routine on Saturday, with Anton Du Beke saying it was their best performance since their Couple's Choice.

The judges unanimously agreed to save Montell, making Jamie the ninth celebrity to leave the show.

Pete appeared visibly shocked by the result and later took to Instagram to apologise to fans amid the backlash.

He wrote: “No one is more surprised than me. Trust me I know I'm not as good as the rest and I'm sorry for that but I'm trying my best, we all are.

“I'm just trying to improve and learn as I go. No one is more surprised that I'm still here than me. We're all giving it 100 percent and no one wants to see any one go home.”

The remaining six couples will take to the dancefloor next week for the quarter final with the live show returning to BBC One and iPlayer on Saturday November 30 at 7.05pm and the results show airing on Sunday December 1 at 7.20pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
