Actress and TV presenter Denise Welch has said that Meghan Markle is “the most bullied woman in the world” nearly six months after people complained to Ofcom about her defence of the Hollywood star and her husband Prince Harry.
In May, Ofcom received over 100 complaints after Denise, 66, said she was “just sick to death of the bashing [Meghan] gets” on ITV show Loose Women.
Nearly six months on from her comments, Denise has told ADHD Chatter Podcast host Alex Partridge that she stands by her position and said she will continue to stand up for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
Denise, whose son is The 1975 front man, Matty Healey, expressed her dislike for those who make claims about Harry and Meghan and added she was prepared to stand up for people who she didn’t know against people criticising a couple they also don’t know.
Denise explained: “If you get me on television supporting Meghan Markle and someone comes on who was paid to lie in an interview to say the Meghan Markle documentary was absolutely dire when they’ve not even seen it then I’m going to kick off with that person.
“It doesn’t mean I’m a horrible person, it’s means that I’ve got a voice that I’m prepared to use to support someone that I don’t know, but that I feel gets a terrible terrible rap in this world, it’s Meghan Markle.
“And then of course you get the people who are anti-Meghan Markle who will portray me on social media to be ‘a bully’. It’s like well I’ve never bullied anyone in my entire life. If you mean by checking someone that I vehemently disagree with because they’re denigrating someone that they don’t know either.
“I don’t know how she gets through every day that woman, I really don’t. I really really don’t. She’s the most bullied woman in this world, but if you stick up for someone you’ll then be accused of being a bully.”
Denise’s comments about Meghan and Harry came just days after Donald Trump won the US Election, a move which experts say could trigger a US exit for the couple after the Trump threatened to deport the prince if he won the election.
One expert has said that a move back to the UK or to Europe could become a more likely option for Harry and Meghan, particularly after it was reported that the latter’s friend, Ellen DeGeneres, was planning a relocation to the Cotswolds.
What’s more, even if Trump chooses not to deport Harry, Daily Mail Editor at Large Charlotte Griffiths told GB News that the couple’s dislike of the president elect could see them jump before they’re pushed.
She told the media outlet: “Meghan will be really upset to live in America with Trump as President. She really viscerally disliked him and for many different reasons, and has said that he's a misogynist live on television before. So she might want to leave America.”

One potential location Harry and Meghan could jump to is Portugal after reports surfaced of the pair’s purchase of property in the European country, thousands of miles from their current base in Montecito, California.
As to why they purchased the real estate, King Charles’ former personal butler Grant Harrold said although it may look like a step towards the UK they would also be joining a wave of people who have left and returned to the USA.
He told the New York Post: "Their life in the US — there’s so many people that move away and move back, so I don’t think there’d be anything unusual about Harry and Meghan leaving the US for Europe.
"But maybe living in the States wasn’t what they thought it would be and that could be why they’re now supposedly edging their way back in the direction of the UK.”
