Embarrassing moment Laura Kuenssberg makes terrible joke

A joke made towards BBC Breakfast's presenting duo this morning (November 3) appeared to fall flat in an awkward show blunder.

On the red sofa this morning were presenters Luxmy Gopal and Ben Thompson. The pair were introducing political journalist Laura Kuenssberg and her upcoming show, Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg, in the wake of a new Conservative leader being announced.

Introducing the broadcaster, Ben said: "Good morning! Two big heavyweights with you in the studio," as Laura appeared via a live link from her own studio, set to tell viewers more about what was to come.

It was at this moment that she made a savage quip, picking up on Ben's 'heavyweights' remark, telling the presenting pair that 'that's not you two'.

"Certainly, and I was going to say that's not you two in the studio on the sofa there," Laura joked before erupting into laughter.

There was silence from the BBC Breakfast studio, as Laura continued to share who the real 'heavyweights' were on her show.

"A double whammy big bumper post-budget show for everybody this morning," she began, brushing off the joke that seemingly fell flat.

"We’ll be joined by the Chancellor Rachel Reeves just a couple of days after she gave her first budget to the country and what a change-making budget it was."

She continued: "More tax, more spending, more borrowing but we’ll be asking her how she really thinks she can get the economy growing if that's her plan, and also the first and exclusive interview with the woman who won the Tory crown yesterday, Kemi Badenoch."

Rounding off the interaction, host Ben made no reference to Laura's quip, saying simply: "See you then Laura, thank you," before continuing with his hosting duties.

BBC Breakfast airs on BBC One each day from 6am, while Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg airs weekly on Sundays at 9am
