Morning Live: Helen Skelton calls Gethin Jones' clothes 'tatty'

Morning Live's Helen Skelton took a cheeky jibe at her fellow presenter Gethin Jones for his fashion choices during an appearance on BBC Breakfast.

As they returned to the small screen on Monday morning (October 21), viewers tuning into their beloved daytime TV show were greeted by Helen and Gethin, who linked up with BBC Breakfast's Jon Kay and Sally Nugent prior to their 9:30am start.

Helen informed the audience about the upcoming segments, teasing a chat with gardening expert Mark Lane about safeguarding plants against the cold weather using clothing.

Demonstrating his point on air, Mark suggested repurposing old jumpers and coats to keep the plants cosy, brandishing a pullover for effect.

But when the broadcast swung back to the hosts, Gethin quipped about the origin of the jumper shown, hinting, "Why do they always go into my room to get.."

Seizing her moment, Helen ribbed Gethin, asserting: "Because they're old and tatty and need a new lease of life," reports Wales Online.

Taking the playful insult in stride, Gethin simply concurred, "That's fair," before swiftly moving on to preview what else was to come, adding: "Straight from the Strictly ball room, nothing tatty about this one Anton Du Beke gives us the lowdown on last night's elimination."

Last month, Helen and Gethin were caught in yet another live-on-air blunder. The incident unfolded as they were winding down a segment on challenging council tax with consumer journalist Felicity Hannah.

When Gethin closed the segment by quoting Bryan Adams' hit song, stating: "Everything I do, I do it for you."

Helen mistakenly thought he was addressing Felicity and commented: "You made Felicity really uncomfortable then. She didn't know where you were going with that."

To this, Gethin retorted: "I was looking at you. That was the awkward bit."

Helen playfully added: "More so now though, eh? " as she humorously shifted her chair away from him.

This light-hearted moment ensued after Felicity had linked council tax discussions to the year 1991. She mentioned: "Bryan Adams was in the charts with Everything I Do (I Do It For You)", which Gethin acknowledged with approval as a "good reference".

BBC Breakfast airs everyday from 6am on BBC One and Morning Live is on at 9.30am
