Antiques Road Trip: Kate Bliss gets angry over bad deal

Bargain Hunt is back on BBC One with expert Kate Bliss helping the amateur teams make some profit. She has always had an interest in antiques and was in fact the only female auctioneer at her local saleroom in her early career.

Her father owned his own saleroom when she was growing up and Kate could often be found rummaging for treasure. She explained: "I think a lot of the antiques business is in the blood.

"So many traditional dealers impart their knowledge and enthusiasm to the next generation, and so the tradition continues. My father certainly taught me how to auctioneer and command the room.

"My parents love antiques and quirky objects and their passion has rubbed off on me. I also loved studying the craftsmanship of pieces and the history behind them."

She may well have passed her passion for antiques to her own two children - daughter Lily and son Ben.

She shares her children with husband Jonathan, who she met while working at Brightwells Auctioneers and Valuers.

The family lives on the banks of the Wye, in Herefordshire, and she spoke to Herefordshire Life about why it was a good place to raise children.

She said: "It's the rural element. There are so many things a rural community can offer children growing up to get them interested in outdoor pursuits and activities.

"I want them to appreciate our world. I have grown up with an enormous sense of security and belonging that increases whenever I return.

"No wonder then, I want my children to grow up with their feet in the same mud."

Kate added she can often be found "doing something outdoorsy" with her family, in an interview with the BBC.

Opening up on her free time, she explained: "I snatch short bursts of ‘me time’, usually early in the morning in the week, when I exercise, running with our loopy labrador or doing pilates.

"I do love a good cook, whether baking or doing a big meal for family and friends. It can be a bit hit and miss with me though, and the children love reminding me of my disasters in the kitchen."

Bargain Hunt airs on BBC One on weekdays at 12.15pm
