Gavin and Stacey patriarch Larry Lamb has cast doubts over whether the upcoming festive special will truly be the end of the BBC sitcom.
The hit show originally aired for three series from 2007 to 2010 and returned for a one-off festive episode in 2019. The comedy features co-creators James Corden and Ruth Jones as well as Joanna Page, Matthew Horne and Rob Brydon among many more.
The highly anticipated TV show is set to return for one final special on Christmas Day. However, the 77-year-old presenter – who plays Mick Shipman on the show – is convinced that this won’t be the last we see of it.
In a recent interview, the actor compared James and Ruth to legendary rockers who perpetually announce farewell tours.

He said: “It’s like those old rock ‘n’ rollers who go round the world on their ‘last tour’. What are you going to do, kill it? What’s the point? They’re too canny, those two. We could be rocking this thing out when I’m about 104.”
The BBC confirmed earlier this year that the Gavin and Stacey episode this Christmas would be the final ever episode.
Although he thinks the show could return, Larry recently described how filming the finale was “so emotional” and had extra poignancy as the “beautiful” closing scenes were shot during the final days of filming.
During an appearance on Good Morning Britain, he admitted: “On the last day of filming, we were filming the end of the story which is so unusual because nine times out of ten you find that you’re doing the end on the first day and you’re doing the beginning right at the end of it all.

“So what we were filming was the end of the story on the very last day and there was just this mental tick, tick, tick going on all the time and the emotions just kept building and building and building... [the ending] is just beautiful.”
Larry also mentioned that James and Ruth hosted a fantastic party that was truly wonderful after they wrapped up filming.
He revealed: “James and Ruth really pushed the boat out and it was a wonderful party because over those five, six weeks you’ve got, I suppose, a total of about 80 people all come together.”
The final episode of Gavin And Stacey will air on BBC iPlayer and BBC One on December 25.
