Outlander Fan Documentary teased in YouTube trailer

The Outlander cast recently completed filming for their final seasons of the Starz series, sharing an emotional update that season eight's shooting had concluded. The historical fantasy show's stars, based on Diana Gabaldon's book series of the same name, posted heartfelt goodbyes on social media, leaving fans teary-eyed.

Outlander's eighth season, set to air in 2025, will conclude the romantic saga after more than a decade and over 100 episodes.

In the interim, fans eagerly anticipate the return of beloved characters Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) and Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe) in the second half of season seven, which is imminent.

While the wait isn't long, some ardent fans have been occupied with other ventures - including a bold documentary dedicated to the series.

Maria Terleckyj, an Outlander enthusiast and IG fan page content creator who is one of the fan documentary's two Executive Producers, gave the Daily Record an exclusive glimpse into the thrilling new project.

Maria revealed that the concept for the Outlander Fan Documentary was first conceived by Cynthia Dawn in 2018 when she and a group of friends "decided that the connection and phenomenon of the Outlander community needed to be told".

Initially, the group considered a coffee table book filled with stories and photos celebrating the global friendships formed through the fandom, but they eventually shifted towards a feature-length documentary.

Maria, who became part of the crew in 2020, has been vital in engaging fans worldwide and has greatly supported Cynthia in drumming up the funds required to turn their cinematic dream into reality.

In an exclusive insight, she expressed: "We aspire to be the collective voice of our one-of-a-kind, global Outlander fan community. Our goal is to weave together a visual journey, showcasing the joy, friendships, achievements, and healing that has taken place because of this story, and the community it has created."

In her conversation with us, Maria elaborated: "We will share stories of how the characters, books, and television series have, and continue to, enrich the lives of so many, because Diana Gabaldon challenged herself to write a novel. The result is a community that radiates love, loyalty, strength and resilience."

Driven by fervent dedication, this group of enthusiasts initiated an Indiegogo fundraising drive, setting their sights on accumulating $10,000 to defray costs linked to editing, marketing, and other project-related outlays.

Pushing the envelope further, Maria added: "We want to show the 'Outlander Effect' on our global fandom and its impact on Scotland and its tourism."

She then highlighted: "There will be one more Droughtlander after season 7B. Many fans are emotional about it. We'd like this documentary to be something for them to celebrate and to evoke heartwarming emotion."

To capture the heartfelt essence of the fandom, Maria pointed out: "After countless fan interactions and interviews, the documentary has organically evolved to focus on topics such as: relationships and friendships, confidence and achievements, creativity and entrepreneurship, and lastly, overcoming trauma and hardships.
