Saturday Kitchen: Stanley Tucci opens the weekend show

Saturday Kitchen host Matt Tebbutt has addressed being ‘replaced’ on the BBC One show.

The beloved morning programme has been a staple on screens for years. And the show was back for another instalement on Saturday (October 12) - but it’s fair to say things were looking different, just seconds in.

Instead of Matt Tebbutt welcoming viewers, Hollywood star Stanley Tucci was there to give fans a rundown of what was to come. Stanley is best known for his roles in huge blockbusters like The Devil Wears Prada, The Hunger Games and The Lovely Bones.

Talking to the viewers at home, he said: “Good morning. Do not adjust your sets, I’m taking over the show for one week only.

“Now, here’s hoping I can do the dramatic turn justice. And this is Saturday Kitchen live!” he added.

After the title cards though, John was in his hot seat and was quick to address his 'replacement.'

Matt, who has hosted the show since 2016, told viewers: “Welcome to the show. I haven't been replaced completely. But our special guest today is well and truly in charge: Stanley Tucci!” the long-running star added, before everyone in the studio started applauding.

Joining Matt and Stanley on the show, were chefs Georgina Hayden and Julius Roberts, as well as drinks expert Helen McGinn.

It comes after thinks took an awkward turn during last week's episode after a blunder involving plant-based cookbook author Mary McCartney.

Matt and his co-star chef cooked up a mussel and tagliatelle dish in the kitchen. As the conversation turned to the versatility of mussels, Matt turned to Mary and quizzed her on her stance on the seafood, appearing to forget she didn't eat meat or fish.

"Mary, where do you stand on a mussel?" he asked. "I don't eat them..." she began, looking uncomfortable, as Matt quickly interjected: "Being a vegetarian."

"I don't eat them," she said again. "We have had debates in the past of the fact they don't have a brain or a nervous system, I don't think." Matt then said awkwardly: "Right," as he continued to cook, with Mary once again reiterating: "I don't eat them."

Saturday Kitchen airs every Saturday from 10am on BBC One.
