Modern Family, with its talented multi-generational cast, has seen many of its actors go on to achieve great success.

The ABC sitcom, the brainchild of Christopher Lloyd and Steven Levitan, graced our screens for 11 seasons between 2009 and 2020, and this year marks its 15th anniversary.

With an impressive run of 250 episodes, the comedy centred around an extended family, linked through patriarch Jay Pritchett (Ed O'Neill), residing in suburban Los Angeles.

The series catapulted several stars to fame, including Sofia Vergara, who at one point was the highest-earning actress globally, boasting a reported annual income of 43 million U.S. dollars.

But what have the rest of the Modern Family cast been up to since? Read on to find out more about the cast of the popular sitcom, which is available to stream on Disney Plus.

Ty Burrell as Phil Dunphy

Ty Burrell is beloved for his role as Phil Dunphy, with Modern Family fans never failing to laugh at his various dad jokes and blunders. 

Burrell even won two Emmys for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series during the show’s run. 

Since Modern Family, Burrell decided to take a step back from the spotlight to spend more time with his wife, Holly Burrell, and their two daughters, Frances and Greta.

He has a few film credits, including 2014's Muppets Most Wanted and 2017's Rough Night, and has made guest appearances on several other TV shows. 

The star also pursued voice acting, appearing as himself on Family Guy, and lending his vocals to the animated sitcom Duncanville between 2020 and 2022.

Julie Bowen as Claire Dunphy

Like her co-star Burrell, Julie Bowen won two Emmys for her role as no-nonsense mum Claire Dunphy. 

The actress has since enjoyed movie stardom, appearing in 2011’s Horrible Bosses, 2020’s Hubie Halloween, 2021’s The Fallout and, more recently, Totally Killer in 2023. This month, she also appears on Peacock's Hysteria!

After directing a couple of episodes of Modern Family during its run, she later pursued her new skill and ended up directing Wednesday actress Jenna Ortega in the 2019 short film, Girl Code. 

Sarah Hyland as Haley Dunphy

Sarah Hyland began starring in Modern Family as Haley Dunphy when she was just 18 years old and has become well-known for the role. 

She faced more than her fair share of challenges during the show’s run, having ot undergo  a kidney transplant in 2012 and another in 2017, after the first went into failure.

However, these days she’s assured friends she’s “thriving” and “super happy” and has been married to Bachelorette alum Wells Adams since 2022. 

Hyland has appeared in Geek Charming (2011), Scary Movie 5 (2013), Vampire Academy (2014) and The Wedding Year (2019). 

She also joined the Pitch Perfect franchise for spinoff series Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin in 2022 and even went on to host seasons 4 and 5 of reality competition series, Love Island USA.

Ariel Winter as Alex Dunphy

Actress Ariel Winter began playing super-smart middle child Alex Dunphy on Modern family when she was just 11 years old. 

Having been in the industry since a young child, she has appeared in multiple TV roles, even lending her voice to shows like Phineas and Ferb and Sophia the First.

In 2022, Winter said she was moving away from Los Angeles to pursue a quieter life away from fame.

Nolan Gould as Luke Dunphy

Fans might be interested to know that Luke Dunphy actor Nolan Gould, who started playing the loveable but not-too-bright youngest son at 10 years old, is actually a member of the high IQ society Mensa International. He also graduated high school with a GED at age 13.

Since appearing on Modern Family, Gould has appeared on The Celebrity Dating Game, as well as an episode of Grey's Anatomy and the 2023 film Miranda's Victim.

Ed O'Neill as Jay Pritchett

Ed O'Neill was already an established actor before Modern Family, best known for playing Al Bundy on Married... with Children.

Aside from the ABC show, O’Neill has voice acted in many famous films, including Wreck-It Ralph (2012), Finding Dory (2016) and Ralph Breaks the Internet (2018). 

The actor and proud father of two’s post-show credits also include a TV role in the FX miniseries Clipped.

Sofía Vergara as Gloria Delgado

Gloria Delgado actress Sofía Vergara has previously made headlines as the highest-paid TV actress, with a reported annual income of 43 million U.S. dollars. 

She is also the recipient of four Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for her role in Modern Family. 

Since the show ended, Vergara became a judge on America's Got Talent and lent her voice in Koati (2021), Strays (2023) and Despicable Me 4 (2024).

She has also earned an Emmy nomination for her portrayal of Colombian drug lord Griselda Blanco in the 2024 Netflix miniseries Griselda.

Aside from her on-screen career, she also has her own denim line for Walmart and owns the ¡Díos Mio! Colombian coffee brand.

Rico Rodriguez as Manny Delgado

Since his time as Manny Delgado on Modern Family, Rico Rodriguez has made several on-screen appearances, including Nickelodeon's The Substitute and Unfiltered.

He also landed a role in the 2015 chess film, Endgame, and has appeared on the podcast How to Win Friends and Disappear People.

Eric Stonestreet as Cameron Tucker

Before Eric Stonestreet played Cameron Tucker in Modern Family, he was known for his role as Ronnie Litre on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.

He has also appeared in films like 2011's Bad Teacher and 2013's Identity Thief.

Since the show, Stonestreet has portrayed Magnus Antas on Disney+'s The Santa Clauses and also took up a hosting role on the Fox competition series Domino Masters.

Jesse Tyler Ferguson as Mitchell Pritchett

Mitchell Pritchett actor Jesse Tyler Ferguson enjoyed a successful theatre career before joining the cast of Modern Family, where he earned several Emmy nominations alongside his on-screen husband Cameron Tucker.

Aside from the ABC show, Ferguson has appeared as a guest judge on So You Think You Can Dance from 2011 to 2013 and hosted Extreme Makeover: Home Edition in 2020.

He has also landed roles in High School Musical: The Musical: The Series and 2023 disaster film Cocaine Bear.

The star also won his first Tony for his performance in the Broadway revival of Take Me Out in 2022.

Aubrey Anderson-Emmons as Lily Tucker-Pritchett

Lily Tucker-Pritchett actress Aubrey Anderson-Emmons was only three years old when she joined the cast of Modern Family. 

The star hasn’t been on our screens since the show ended, but has been busy performing in high school stage productions.

Anderson-Emmons and her mother Amy Anderson also have their own food review YouTube channel called FoodMania Review.
