Sunday Brunch guests debate how to make a cup of tea

Sunday Brunch sparked a tea-making debate on Sunday's episode when hosts Tim Lovejoy and Simon Rimmer brought up the hot beverage.

During the latest instalment, Tim, 56, and Simon, 61, welcomed guests Josh Widdicombe, Jenny Eclair, Sophie Willan, Jessica Hynes, Eve, Tom Read Wilson and The Dandy Warhols to the studio.

At one point during the show, Tim asked singer Eve, 45: "Eve, have you got into the tea drinking over here, do you drink a lot of tea? The proper way though, British with the milk?"

To which Eve admitted: "I drink a lot of tea, I like Yorkshire tea but I don't do normal milk because I just don't do normal milk. The one thing about the milk in my house is one of my eldest stepdaughters she likes her milk after but my husband likes his milk before. I still don't understand the difference! I don't get the difference, there's no difference?"

This prompted The Dandy Warhols star Courtney Taylor-Taylor to explain: "Yes, there is because if you pour the hot water in with the tea the milk already there, it brings it up to temperature more slowly. If you've got boiling water and put milk in, it will scold it!"

However, the rest of the studio were quick to point out that the hot water helps to brew the tea more as the hosts asked Courtney to clarify whether they pour the milk before or after to which the musician said: "Before!"
This prompted the rest of the show's guests to reveal they pour the milk after to which Courtney remarked: "It'll more likely curdle!"

Taking to Twitter, now X, viewers were quick to share their thoughts as one person said: "Clearly water first in tea to brew the tea leaves #SundayBrunch" while a different account put: "I appreciate everyone has an opinion on making tea… but no disrespect, I won’t be taking advise from an American on how to make a proper brew! Always, always, milk after for me #sundaybrunch."
Elsewhere, another show watcher added: "When making tea, milk first or last, it really depends,if the tea is already brewing in teapot, then u can put milk in first in cup then pour hot tea into it. If making straight from cup then its hot water into mug with tea bag, let it brew abit then add milk #SundayBrunch."
Sunday Brunch continues on Sundays at 9:30am on Channel 4.
