BBC Breakfast's Jon Kay appears 'sad' over turtle segment

BBC Breakfast's Sally Nugent was left slightly worried about her co-star Jon Kay after the pair spoke about a turtle called Nazaré.

The loggerhead was found washed up on a beach in Cumbria at the start of the year and was nursed back to health.

Recently, it was released back into the wild as viewers watched the sweet clip of her being put back into the ocean.

However, when the footage came to an end, Jon had his bottom lip out, looking at his co-star.

Sally commented: "What a great story, oh you look a bit sad!"

Jon highlighted that it was the handler in the clip who had admitted that he hadn't gotten a chance to say goodbye to the creature that had moved him.

He said: "It's heartbreaking!"

Sally explained Nazaré was now free and living her best life as he added: "fingers crossed."

She continued: "No algae, no nothing, she looks great!"

The two hosts told viewers they'd be speaking to Todd German from Sea Life in Scarborough later on in the show, for an update on the turtle.

Joking, Sally replied: "I wonder if he's even heard from her. I bet she hasn't been in touch at all."

Jon added: "She doesn't write, she doesn't call, she doesn't email, nothing!"

As the two laughed, Sally said: "She's living her best life, having a fabulous time."

In the segment, viewers learnt that Nazaré was found washed up on the beach by a dog walker.

At the time, she was covered in cuts, algae and showed little signs of life before being nursed back to health.

However, it wasn't the first time the turtle had entered a facility similar to Sea Life as Scott Blacker told the BBC she had a satellite tracking device on her back

He said: "We found out that she was released from the coast of France from La Rochelle aquarium where she had been rehabilitated in June 2023.

"So, it wasn't the first time she'd been in a facility like ours."

BBC Breakfast continues weekdays on BBC One from 6am
