NTAs 2024: David Attenborough wins award

Sir David Attenborough sparked concern among viewers as he failed to attend the National Television Awards.

The TV icon won Best Expert for his passionate screen work about nature and animals but wasn’t in attendance to raise the trophy.

Instead, his friend and producer took to the stage on his behalf to thank viewers for their loyalty and revealed David would return to screens with another documentary.

Although the 98-year-old received a roar of applause from the audience of celebrities and fans, ITV viewers questioned his absence.

Taking to X, @mrschinocherry wrote: “What do you mean sir David can not be with us tonight, is he good, is he well, we need him protected at all costs.”

As @thatsmypeachx echoed: “Has anyone checked if David Attenborough is actually okay??”

While @Greg_Phillips_ stated: “At 98 David Attenborough is probably tucked up in bed.”

Another fan @Mabel_Mouse_ sympathised with the star and added: “Can’t blame David Attenborough for not attending tbh.”

@alexr_241 joked: “David Attenborough really said f**k this show I’ve got better things to do.”

Elsewhere, a disappointed @alishakaytyler_ penned: “I’d love to have seen David Attenborough tonight #NTAs.”

Despite his absence, David will soon return to BBC Factual to present another documentary, titled Asia.

The seven-part natural history series will be about the wildlife of our planet’s largest continent.

It will also cover the length and breadth of Asia, the series will reveal its most remarkable landscapes and animals, and feature dramatic, previously unseen behaviour.
