Rachel Leskovac has been left heartbroken by Angela Griffin's departure from the hit show Waterloo Road.

The actress, known for her role as Coral in the BBC drama, admitted she was gutted by Angela Griffin's departure. As the new series unfolds, viewers will discover that Kim Campbell, portrayed by Angela, decides to embrace adventure and travel with Andrew Treneman (Jamie Glover) following his romantic proposal at the climax of the previous season.

Consequently, Kim resigns from her Headteacher position, setting the stage for a new character to head the school.

Opening up to The Mirror, Rachel said: "I was gutted on a personal level that Kim has left because I love working with Angela so much. Angela brings a certain energy, and she has a knowledge of the show, too."

While addressing Angela's exit, she continued: "She's the heart of the series, but luckily Angela is still here directing some episodes. But change is tradition with Waterloo Road and hopefully people who have watched the show since the start won't be too upset because headteachers come and go. That's part of the structure of the show."

Waterloo Road is set to welcome the new headmaster, Steve Savage, played by the versatile comedian and actor Jason Manford. Rachel hinted that Steve's approach would starkly contrast with Kim's legacy, reports the Mirror.

However, Steve won't be without support, as Rachel's character, Coral, will be there to help him navigate his new responsibilities.

The actress opened up about her character's dynamics on the show, saying: "So Steve has come from a very different background to Kim, she's always putting the children first. Coral is more onboard with Steve than some of the other characters. She likes the traditional way that he works in, and Steve always gets the job done. Jason has some very big storylines which affect all of us I think people are really going to like him."

She also gushed about her character Coral's blossoming romance with Neil Guthrie. Rachel said: "That's been my favourite storyline of Coral's so far. I've learned so much from Neil because he is extremely funny, but he also has this incredible ability to be really moving as well. Coral and Neil are one of those couples that you never saw coming, but from what I've been told, people enjoy that partnership."
