University Challenge saw two teams from Oxbridge come head-to-head in tonight's epsiode of the BBC quiz show. Host Amol Rajan welcomed four students from St Catharine's College, Cambridge to pit their wits against a team from Wadham College, Oxford in a bid to reach the second round of academic quizzing.
But as the fourth of the BBC quiz's first-round matches took place, fans at home were "screaming" at their television screens, with viewers proudly announcing one of the answers.
In a round where three of the questions were medical based, TV host Amol asked the two teams: "The name of what sexually transmitted infection comes from the Greek for cloak? Its name derives from the nuclei formation of infected cells when viewed under a microscope."
St Catharine's team conferred for a lenthy amount of time, much to the annoyance of fans at home. One of the university contestants began the discussion as he laid out the options with his team, saying: "You've got gonorrhea, chlamydia..." before finally deciding that the answer was chlamydia - which proved to be correct.
One user at home posted to X (formerly Twitter) over the answer as they said the length of the conferring had them "screaming" at the TV. They wrote: " Oi @amolrajan.

"I have just had to shriek 'Chlamydia!' at the TV, it’s lucky I live on my own, but God knows what the neighbours thought as I finally yelled, 'Chlamydia, FFS!' #UniversityChallenge."
Another echoed the first as they quipped: "Well that’s the first time I’ve ever shouted CHLAMYDIA at the TV #UniversityChallenge."
Someone else could not believe the content of some of this evening's questions, as they penned: "Chlamydia and pegging as answers in one episode... #UniversityChallenge."

Last week, a "mind-boggling" question stumped BBC viewers. While the show is notorious for traditionally difficult questions, one in particular really had fans at home scratching their heads.
The question was: "Used to detect the presence of lipids, what test involves first dissolving a sample in ethanol before mixing this with water, A positive result for the presence of lipids is indicated by the formation of a milky white lipid?"
Both teams answered incorrectly as fans at home took to social media to share their predictions. Later, Amol confirmed the correct answer as "emulsion test".
