BBC Radio 2 fans fear 'exit announcement' as Zoe Ball replaced by Scott Mills again

Scott Mills hosts Zoe Ball's breakfast show in her absence

Zoe Ball's lengthy absence from BBC Radio 2 has sparked specualtion from fans, with some suggesting that she may not return to her breakfast show at all. The 53-year-old radio DJ has been missing from her regular slot for five weeks, with her last appearance being on August 8.

The BBC star had only been back on her breakfast show for four days, before going "missing" again - With Gaby Roslin stepping in last minute. Zoe was replaced with little time to spare, again, as she pulled out of Monday August 12's live show too.

As viewers tuned in to hear what Zoe had to say, they instead found themselves listening to presenter Scott Mills. He told fans: "Good morning! You weren't expecting me were you?

"Welcome to Monday, this is Scott Mills. If you set your alarm to go off every morning at 6.30 and normally Zoe comes on, please do not freak out, you have not overslept until 2pm, I'm here doing the breakfast show, so do not panic, you're not late for work."

Fans have been coming increasingly concerned with Zoe's long absence from the BBC show - and it seems she will still be off for at least another week.

Sharing a screenshot of the BBC Radio 2 website, showing that Scott Mills is set to be presenting next week on September 9, one savvy social media user Tweeted: "Scott is doing the breakfast show again next week in for Zoe.

"That's now 5 weeks that he's covered for her. I feel an announcement is coming that Scott will have the breakfast show full time. Hope Zoe is ok [loveheart emoji]."

Another user replied, saying: "I have a feeling Zoe won’t be back and that Scott will be an interim host until the BBC can find another tv star to fill the breakfast slot."

While someone else penned: "I do hope she’s OK but I’ve had a feeling for a while that her time on breakfast might be coming to an end. Scott Mills is doing a great job but knowing the BBC will want to find a big showbiz name to replace Zoe if she does leave."

A reason behind the presenter's absence is yet to be confirmed, buta BBC representative previously shared that Zoe will not be back until September. They just said that she is "taking time off".

Express.co.uk have contacted BBC for comment.

The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show airs weekdays from 6.30am on BBC Radio 2.
