A spin-off from The Batman film is set to be released on UK TV later this month. After viewers were first introduced to Matt Reeve's vision of Gotham and its characters in his 2022 film, Colin Farrell transform into the Penguin in his own self-titled series.

The eight-part Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios drama series will focus on Oz Cobb one week after the events of The Batman and his rise to power in Gotham's criminal underworld. Fans can see elements of HBO classic The Sopranos in the new crime drama that is set to continue Reeve's vision of the Batman universe.

The Penguin feature the Oscar-nominated Farrell alongside Cristin Milioti, Rhenzy Feliz, Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Deirdre O’Connell, Clancy Brown, and Michael Zegen.

The season opener will be broadcast on Sky Atlantic and streaming service NOW on Friday, September 20. This will be a day later than the US, so UK viewers will have to avoid spoilers online. Every episode will be aired weekly.

Colin Farrell attracted widespread praise for his portrayal of the Penguin and was left unrecognisable thanks to the makeup and prosthetics.

The series is executive produced by Matt Reeves, Dylan Clark, Colin Farrell, Lauren LeFranc, who writes and serves as showrunner, Craig Zobel, who directs the first three episodes, Bill Carraro, and Daniel Pipski.

Based on characters created for DC by Bob Kane with Bill Finger, The Penguin is produced by Reeves’ 6th & Idaho Productions and Dylan Clark Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television, where Reeves and 6th & Idaho are under an overall deal.

Lucy Criddle, Sky Director of Acquisitions and Strategic Projects, previously said: "The Penguin is an outstanding addition to our growing comic slate of films and series. With the grimy world of Gotham City amidst chaos, the story continues The Batman epic crime saga and I’m excited to see Farrell take this iconic character to new heights in this eight-part limited drama series.”
