Celebs Go Dating's Jamelia reveals reason she signed up to show - and it wasn't for love

Celebs Go Dating: Chris Taylor admits he needs tips from Tristan

Singer and Hollyoaks star Jamelia has opened up about her reasons for joining Celebs Go Dating, revealing it was the therapeutic aspect that piqued her interest rather than finding the love of her life.

The E4 reality show follows the comings and goings of the Celebrity Dating Agency, which connects celeb clients with non-famous singles in an effort to teach them more about themselves and hopefully find them a perfect match.

But for 'Superstar' and 'See It In A Boy's Eyes' hitmaker Jamelia, love was not the driving force for her appearance on the show.

Speaking to New! magazine, she explained: "I wasn't [looking for The One]. I was looking for advice and guidance. It was the therapy side I was more interested in."

She further added: "When I first joined the show I was convinced I didn't want a relationship, but now I do want one because I know myself and what I want so much better."

Viewers have seen the singer go on three dates on the show so far, but none have caught her interest.

In a candid conversation with Dr Tara and Anna, Jamelia disclosed details about her past relationships, revealing she was abused by her first partner, reports the Mirror. She also expressed her fear of being judged for having children with different fathers in an emotional and raw moment.

However, the coaches were quick to comfort her and praise her for sharing her past difficulties.

Emphasising her surprising journey on the show, Jamelia remarked: "I want it all now! I gained so much more than I thought I would."

The pop sensation also disclosed how she relished the idea of free love advice from the dating coaches, Paul Brunson, Anna Williamson and Dr Tara.

"I was drawn to the fact that it was free therapy and you get to have dates hand-picked for you, so I don't have to do the graft," she revealed. "I don't have to go to clubs or swipe right."

Diving into her personal timing, Jamelia shared: "To be honest, it was the right time in my life. I've been single for two-and-a-half years and I was ready to date and this came along so I was like, 'Yeah, actually, I do want to do that.'"

Joining Jamelia on the latest series of the show are famous faces including Gogglebox's Stephen Webb, Coronation Street actress Helen Flanagan, and MAFS's Ella Morgan.

They are joined by Made in Chelsea's Tristan Phipps and Love Island's Chris Taylor, with Lauryn Goodman set to join at a later date.
