BBC Celebrity MasterChef star was 'quivering mess' as she brands John Torode 'scary'

Celebrity MasterChef star Stef Reid branded John Torode and Gregg Wallace "scary" as she reflected on her time on the BBC show.

The paralympian, 39, appeared on Celebrity MasterChef in 2018, hoping to impress critics John and Greg, both 59, with her culinary skills. And Stef managed to do just that as she made it to the quarter-finals of the hit cooking competition.

Speaking to GB News, the track athlete compared the experience to performing in the Paralympics, admitting she found the latter much easier.

"Oh my goodness, I was so nervous. That was the first time I had ever done anything like that outside of sport," Stef said. "And it's so funny, because in this one realm of life, I was so confident, you know, put me in a stadium full of 80,000 people - totally fine.

The star added: "I knew what I was doing... And yet put me in that kitchen and I am just reduced to like a quivering, nervous mess!"

Since 2005, MasterChef and the Celebrity edition of the show has been presented and judged by John and Greg, who Stef branded "scary", but also "really fun".

She said: "They are very scary! Well, not really scary - but you just know they are really very honest. They will tell you exactly what they make of your food."

Stef went on: "They're both really lovely. They're both really fun. We had a lot of fun. Especially Gregg - actually, we had a really similar sense of humour in that we both really appreciate really sad and cheesy jokes!"

The 19th series of Celebrity MasterChef returned to screens on Tuesday (August 20), with a whole new batch of celebrities hoping to impress the judges in the kitchen.

Gregg got more than he bargained for in Wednesday's instalment (August 21) of the programme after he was served undercooked chicken. Comedian Eshaan Akbar whipped up a butter chicken curry and chicken liver in two cooking tasks.

Unfortunately for the 40-year-old, both dishes were undercooked. In a further blow, Greg revealed the curry would have been a "knock-out dish" had the chicken been cooked properly.
