Michael Mosley: BBC pays tribute to TV doctor in documentary

Michael Mosley will appear in scenes filmed just before his sudden death, this evening. Channel 5 will air the first installment of the three-part series, Michael Mosley: Wonders of the Human Body, which will show some of the final scenes the TV doctor ever filmed.

The late 67-year-old tragically died last year but put his own body under the microscope just weeks before. The documentary will show him taking a close look at why we age, and how our bones break, as well as pioneering cancer treatments.

Viewers will see the star undergoing experiments to test his own heart health, saliva production and how his body reacts when jumping in freezing waters.

Announcing the news of the documentary, Channel 5 posted to X/Twitter to let fans know how to tune in. They wrote: "Channel 5 proudly presents a new series by the late Dr. Michael Mosley.

"Join him as he explores the wonders of the human body, putting himself to the test to uncover answers to burning questions. Michael Mosley: Wonders of the Human Body. Starts Thursday 22nd August at 8pm."

Grieving fans continued to mourn Dr Mosley's loss as they said the programme would be a "hard watch". One user commented on the post, saying: "Really like his programs. Such a loss."

Another added: "Will be a tough watch imho." Elsewhere someone else felt emotional as they penned: "This is going to be a hard watch [crying and heartbroken emojis] #michaelmosley #wondersofthehumanbody."

Back in June, the This Morning regular went missing while he was on holiday in Greece. He was later found dead by a rescue team on the island of Symi days later.

CCTV footage appeared to show the TV doctor making his way down a rocky slope close to a fence before he falls out of view. His widow said Michael appeared to have undertaken an "incredible climb, took the wrong route and collapsed where he couldn't be easily seen" by emergency search teams.

An initial examination by a coroner ruled out foul play. It was revealed that his cause of death was from natural causes of dehydration.

Announcing the news of his death, his widow Dr Bailey Mosley said in a statement: "I don't know quite where to begin with this. It's devastating to have lost Michael, my wonderful, funny, kind and brilliant husband. We had an incredibly lucky life together. We loved each other very much and were so happy together.

"I am incredibly proud of our children, their resilience and support over the past days. My family and I have been hugely comforted by the outpouring of love from people from around the world."

Michael Mosley: Wonders of the Human Body airs on Thursday at 8pm on Channel 5.
