GMB's Adil Ray quizzes former chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng

Former Conservative MP Kwasi Kwarteng was questioned for his actions during his short stint as Chancellor of the Exchequer, this morning. Good Morning Britain host Adil Ray ripping into the former politician as they clashed on the ITV breakfast show - Resulting in fans saying it's "time to leave" for the ITV host.

Mr Kwarteng admitted that he "was not embarrassed" by his economic decisions in government - Despite reportedly adding to the pressures of the cost of living crisis.

Mishearing Adil asked: "You said you're more than embarrassed?" Kwarteng replied: "No, I'm not embarrassed." Adil sounded perplexed as he repeated: "You're not?"

The former politician replied: "No, I'm saying that I was involved in policy. I wanted to lower taxes and we all know what happened there. But I think the fundamental issue is if you don't have growth then you're going to have to pay for public spending."

Adil saw it as the perfect opportunity to grill him as he said: "You did play a big role, you were Chancellor. You did play a big, significant part. Were you not embarrassed or hold any repsonsibility at all?"

Mr Kwarteng stuttered and spoke over him before saying: "I hold responsibility. Absolutely." Directing his attention to the current Labour party, he continued: "That's one of the problems I have with current political leaders. When things go wrong they don't hold their hands up and say 'look we got this wrong'".

Adil asked him what it was that he got wrong as the former MP admitted: "We did too much, too fast."

Fans have previously threatened to "boycott" Good Morning Britain for allowing Mr Kwarteng to be a regular commentator in recent weeks. Today was no different as they complained about yet another appearance from him, while applauding Adil for his questioning.

Posting on X (formerly Twitter), one user said: "Thank you @adilray for asking Kwasi Kwarteng the questions we’ve all wanted to ask him since he started appearing on the show. He should be embarrassed! Shame on @gmb for having him on. #GMB."

Another added: "The arrogance of Kwasi Kwarteng on #GMB this morning! Not embarrassed by the catastrophic effects of his mini-budget. But he couldn’t care less, a failed politician, getting paid his appearance fee. Just go away Mr Kwarteng. Are you embarrassed about anything?"

A third wrote: "Kwasi Kwarteng asked by Adil Ray if he is not embarrassed or take any responsibility for the part he played in wreaking the economy. Bravo Adil. Absolutely delicious #GMB."

However, others backed the former Conservative party member, with one saying: "@GMB @adilray @adilray did not question kwasi, Nels did. Also Kwasi said they they tried rolling out policies too fast and got it wrong, I think if Kwasi had got on his knees and begged forgiveness they still wouldn't have accepted it."

Another wrote: "@GMB @adilray More Tory bashing ….. why not trying to hold the current government to account??"
