Good Morning Britain was halted for breaking news this morning as Marverine Cole issued a tragic announcement.

A fifth body has been recovered from the the luxury yacht which sank off the coast of Sicily earlier this week.

Marverine told viewers: “Good morning, in breaking news, a fifth body has been recovered from the wreck of a luxury yacht that sank in a storm off the coast of Sicily on Monday.

"Five bodies were found inside the wreck on Wednesday, with the last of those brought to the surface a short time ago."

She then handed over to chief correspondent Richard Gaisford, who was presenting live from Porticello. He explained that in the last few minutes a boat had returned from a search, tragically carrying the fifth body.

He shared that the body will be identified later on today, at a hospital. Richard said: "We understand that the task of doing that lies with the surviving family and friends here in Sicily, so a very tough day ahead for them."

The newsreader explained that search teams had been looking for six bodies in the water, before adding: "Now we know that of those six, five have been found. One is still missing and that is the big search today."

He then named tech entrepeneur, Myke Lynch, and his 18-year-old daughter, Hannah as two of the bodies recovered. He said that the remaining three bodies were named as Neda and Chris Morvillo, Jonathan Bloomer and his wife Judy Bloomer.

Richard said that it was a "very difficult time" for all involved, as rescue crafts continue to come and go from the scene. Meanwhile, authorities are said to be investigating what caused the yacht to sink.

Fans rushed to social media to share their sorrow at the latest news, as one said: "Very sad!" as another added: "I hope people are safe."

Another agreed: "This is so sad," as another raged: "She has a name!"

The bodies were found by divers three days after a £30 million boat was sunk in a “one in a million” freak storm, in the waters off Palermo, Italy.

The tragic development came after divers were able to smash windows and enter the superyacht’s hull. The team broke through a three centimetre panel of glass on the side of the yacht and entered the hull, using special jacks produced by a locksmith in Porticello.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV and ITVX
