The first glimpse of the new crime drama, The Teacher, featurers familar face Emmett J Scanlan who previously starred in BBC's Kin and Netflix's Fool Me Once.

The forthcoming series, a sequel to the 2022 hit drama series that previously stared Sheridan Smith, will centre around a teacher, played by actress Kara Tointon, who gets entangled in a "web of desire and deceit" following a student's murder.

While the Channel 5 production will not launch until later this year, first look snaps reveal a star-studded cast, inclduing Kara, Emmett and Coronation Street star Will Mellor all in cast.

The synopiss on My5 reads: "The Teacher II follows the story of Dani, a teacher who loves her job, she's a real mentor and inspiration to her students, but what she lacks is a properly functioning marriage with real intimacy and mutual desire."

The overview details that lead character Kara fnds herself in a sitaution after she becomes distracted by a workplace affair. During a school trip, her eye was taken off the ball and as soon as her back was turned her world began to fall apart when one of the students vanished.

"This leads her into an impulsive affair with a fellow colleague that at first answers all her needs, but soon spirals out of control. When a pupil goes missing on a school trip, Dani rightly blames herself for being too easily distracted.

"When things start to take a sinister turn, she is forced to lie and quickly finds her life falling to pieces. She risks everything to right the wrongs that she has, in part, been responsible for," the digest concluded.

The new drop landed alongside an autmmn tease for up and coming Channel 5 shows, including All Creatures Great and Small, The Wives, The Hardacres, Ellis and Dalgliesh.

Channel 5's Head of Drama and Deputy Chief Content Officer, Sebastian Cardwell announced: "We're riding high on drama at Channel 5 and have an upcoming Autumn schedule packed full of new series that our audience can get their teeth stuck into."

He added: "With detective mysteries, gripping dramas, psychological thrillers and an incredible line up of UK talent to bring the stories to life, there'll be something for everyone to enjoy."
