Emmerdale viewers were left bemused as they noticed a significant error following the first murder committed by village villain Tom King in chilling scenes.

The despicable vet, portrayed by James Chase, sparked outrage among fans when he killed Belle Dingle's (played by Eden Taylor-Draper) beloved dog Piper during Friday's (August 16) episode of the ITV soap.

It is well-known to viewers that Belle has been desperately trying to break free from his control and end their abusive marriage, but he remains resolute in his efforts to win her back, playing the victim in the village while secretly keeping tabs on Belle's every move through hidden cameras and trackers.

He showed up at her brother Sam Dingle's (James Hotton) birthday party last week, where she told him to leave her alone and get out in front of her worried family.

A furious Tom stormed out of The Woolpack and drove to the Dingle house, where he found Piper on the lane and instead of stopping to help the escaped dog, he ran her over.

He then returned to the village with the injured pup and waited until he saw Belle leaving the party before rushing over and claiming to have just found Piper.

After performing surgery on the dog with the assistance of Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry) during Monday's (August 19) episode, Tom brought Belle in to see Piper and informed her that the dog needed to be euthanised. She said her goodbyes and then left the room, unable to bear watching while Tom administered the lethal injection.

Tom attempted to console Belle, assuring his wife that Piper didn't suffer and was at peace. However, he overstepped when he tried to manipulate her, reports the Daily Star.

Belle confronted Tom after realising he was behind Piper's death and exposed him in front of Rhona by revealing his abuse towards the dog during their trip to a cottage in Wales.

As Belle grappled with her disgust at what Tom had done to Piper, viewers spotted a significant error related to the violent dog attack. One Emmerdale fan took to social media to question how the nearby CCTV could have missed him running over the pup.

They posted: "Seeing as Wishing Well Cottage is next door to Eric's house, could his doorbell camera have captured Tom's most vile and cruellest act? Another chimed in: "Certainly hope so, although a horrible experience for Eric and Brenda if they check the footage. "Another viewer commented: "What a good thought."

After watching the "distressing" scenes, some fans even threatened to lodge a formal complaint with broadcasting regulators Ofcom about the controvesial storyline.

Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 and ITVX at 7.30pm
