Ed Balls' possible replacement on Good Morning Britain has been unveiled by betting agency Coral, as he takes a lengthy summer break following the Ofcom scandal.

Patience has been wearing thin among viewers after Ed's decision to feature his wife - Home Secretary Yvette Cooper - in a televised debate about the UK riots. Some declared it impossible for him to be "impartial" as they called for a review into what had happened.

In the meantime, Trisha Goddard - who made her triumphant return to TV screens recently after years away to guest host the show - is a possible favourite to take Ed's place permanently over the summer. John Hill, a rep for Coral, revealed: "Broadcast legend Trisha Goddard delighted GMB viewers with a surprise appearance on the show earlier this week and our betting suggests she may return this summer to cover holidays."

There are other possibilities too, with John adding: "Dermot O'Leary is very familiar with the GMB desk and he is also at the top end of the betting to appear this summer." The pair have been given odds of 4/5 and 2/1 respectively.

Other names on the horizon include Ronan Keating (7/2), Rylan Clark (3/1), Amol Rajan (5/2) and Roman Kemp (4/1). However, viewers might be more accustomed to seeing Ronan host rival programme The One Show over on the BBC.

Another possible contender lies even closer to home, with GMB meteorologist Alex Beresford being awarded odds of 6/1 for a takeover.

Meanwhile, ITV defended its decision to include Ed's wife Yvette in the coverage, despite attracting more than 15,000 formal complaints.

A spokesperson stated: "Following a weekend of rioting and national unrest, GMB featured a range of interviews and discussion around this national emergency on today’s programme which included James Cleverly, shadow home secretary, and Yvette Cooper, home secretary.

“We are satisfied that these interviews were balanced, fair and duly impartial."

During the footage, Ed Balls and Kate Garraway also quizzed Coventry South MP Zarah Sultana, which prompted a heated debate about the use of the word "Islamophobia" as Ofcom complaints continued to flood in.

Meanwhile, viewers have welcomed the return of Trisha, who'd had a career on the likes of ITV and Channel 5 for almost four decades before taking a break.

Sadness is marring her celebrations, as she revealed earlier this year that her breast cancer had returned - and can never be cured.

However, her courageous presence hosting Good Morning Britain this week is said to have provided inspiration to those undergoing similar health struggles.
