The Twelve Season 2 official trailer starring Sam Neill

The Twelve is coming back to ITVX this week and the new season follows twelve ordinary citizens from diverse backgrounds who have been picked to decide the fate of two ex-lovers who stand accused of murder.

Over eight episodes, viewers will explore the lives and loves of the jury and the legal team as the six-week trial plays out. The show teased: "Can our Twelve really be impartial when they come from such a tight rural community?

"One thing is for certain - by the time the verdict is reached, all will be irrevocably changed." The second outing sees the return of Sam Neill as Brett Colby, criminal defence lawyer.

There are plenty of new faces in the upcoming season, which originally aired on Fox Showcase earlier in the summer. The synopsis reads: "When wealthy cattle farmer Bernice Price was found dead at the bottom of her farm well at Airly Downs, her head injury could not be convincingly explained away by a fall.

"Now, two ex-lovers stand co-accused of her murder. Well-known criminal barrister, Brett Colby, comes to Tunkwell to represent former Airly Downs employee, Patrick Harrows, while Meredith Nelson-Moore defends the other accused, Sasha Price – who is also the victim’s daughter."
