The Chase: Bradley backs player after he takes low offer
Viewers of The Chase are up in arms after an apprehensive contestant chose to compete for the lower offer on the ITV gameshow. The controversial move has sparked debate among fans, causing them to claim a “special place in hell” is reserved for those who complete the act.
On Monday (August 12), another quartet of contenders from across the UK tried their hands at beating Paul Sinha, 54. First up to face The Sinnerman was 57-year-old Debbie, a retired operations manager from Surrey.
Unfortunately, she was the first contestant to be caught by the Chaser and was sent home without adding any money to the Cash Builder. Next up was Ian, a police officer originally from Manchester.
During his introduction, he explained to The Chase host Bradley Walsh, 64, that he enjoyed hobbies such as skiing and running. He also claimed he would put any potential winnings towards a holiday with his family to New York.
However, the 42-year-old had a tough time and only managed to answer two of Bradley’s questions. “You’ve only got two grand Ian, I’ve got to say they were tough [questions],” the presenter confessed. “They were really hard.”
Paul agreed with Bradley and claimed Ian had been dealt a difficult deck in the initial round.
To rectify the situation, he offered the star a “generous” £1,000 low offer and £40,000 high offer to go alongside the £2,000 he earned.
“I always said I’d never go low,” Ian admitted. “But with Debbie gone, I want to get back and I’m going to go for the £1,000.”
Despite taking the low offer, the London-based officer failed to beat The Sinnerman and was sent packing from The Chase.
Following the low-offer decision, fans have come out in droves to debate the move.
One user of X, formerly known as Twitter, took to the platform and wrote: “Low offer = logs into Twitter #TheChase.”

A second typed: “There's a special place in hell for those who take the low offer then tell a fellow player to go high. By all means take the low offer but don't expect others to make up for your shortfall. Sort of person to avoid when splitting a bill or having a whip.”
“Incoming X explosion after low offer accepted,” remarked another knowing Chase fan.
Someone else penned: “Always said I'd never go low then goes low #Thechase.”
Elsewhere, a fifth user commented: “Let’s just stop this now and put the test card picture on until the news. It’s pitiful #TheChase.”
Earlier this summer Paul revealed he’d cost ITV a hefty sum of money after embarking on a weight loss journey due to being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in 2017.
After being diagnosed, the Chaser took part in the ITV documentary Diabetes: The Fast Fix where he was forced to survive on just 800 calories per day.
Writing in his memoir, Once Sinha Lifetime: Comedy, Disaster and One Man's Quest for Happiness, Paul revealed he’d put his diabetes “in remission”.
“I lost plenty of weight, costing The Chase dozens of pounds in replacement suits.
“Far more importantly, I successfully put my diabetes in remission,” he added.
