Judy Finnigan has opened up about the "only thing" she could do after suffering a humiliating wardrobe malfunction on live TV.

The mortifying incident occurred at the National Television Awards back in 2000 and saw the presenter take to the stage with her husband, Richard Madeley, to accept an award for This Morning.

However, it seems that what happened next still haunts Judy 24 years later and is something the TV legend now views as her most embarrassing moment, reports Woman magazine.

Judy said while discussing her worst TV mishap: "That has to be that awful time when my dress fell down at the National Television Awards. In the end, the only thing you can do is see it as funny, but it was embarrassment on a global scale."

In a moment witnessed by 12 million viewers, Judy's dress came undone on stage and she inadvertently flashed her bra. But to make matters worse, neither of them noticed the gaffe.

Richard then hilariously thought the crowd wanted him to do his Ali G impression, but mercifully, ex-This Morning presenter John Leslie ran on stage and helped Judy cover up.

Once the red-faced presenter finally realised what had happened, she pulled her jacket together and covered her mouth in surprise while the crowd cheered.

To add insult to injury, the moment, which occurred at London's Royal Albert Hall, was voted the "funniest TV blunder ever" in a poll.

In a Channel 5 documentary that aired in July, titled Our Best Bits – In Our Own Words, the daytime TV icons relived the excruciating blunder.

Richard, 68, divulged that he was "blissfully unaware" and was under the impression that people wanted to hear his Ali G as they'd requested it as the duo went to the stage.
Judy, 76, meanwhile, said she "didn’t notice" that her halter neck dress had fallen down as she was wearing a coat over it at the time.

The now-infamous wardrobe malfunction was also witnessed by the pair's children, Jack and Chloe, who appeared in the documentary.

Jack recalled turning around in "slow motion" and saw his mum "with her bra out". Chloe reiterated that her mum "basically just had her boobs out".

Richard and Judy: Our Best Bits – In Our Own Words is available to watch on My5.
