The Mallorca Files Season 3: Official trailer
The Mallorca Files has finally returned to our screens with a new batch of cases to investigate. The series has a new home on Prime Video and British detective Miranda Blake played by Elen Rhys and her German partner Max Winter played by Julian Looman.
The new season features eight episodes as the continental duo investigates cases involving arson, kidnap, and murder. As ever, viewers will be wondering if the cop duo will ever see that they are the perfect love match?
The pair has definitely grown closer as a professional partnership, but there have been clear sparks between Max and Miranda throughout the latest season. This often plays into the comedy of the Prime Video series.
But how does The Mallorca Files end?
What happens at the end of The Mallorca Files season 3?
By the final episode, Max has accepted his girlfriend Carmen has left Mallorca for a new job in Madrid. Carmen told Max: “Six months - after that we’re together forever or forever apart”.
It is clear that Max misses Carmen and is caught up in a dilemma of what to do with her and their relationship. Max often relies on Miranda for advice, but it’s unclear what has happened to Carmen and Max’s relationship at the end of season three.
Tension has been building between Max and Miranda throughout the season, with Max’s friend seeing the relationship between the pair and asking if Miranda was Max’s girlfriend.
Max and Miranda even posed as a couple while going undercover and Miranda asked Max to kiss her to show they were a real couple. Before Max can lean in, Miranda walks away and exclaims it’s not necessary anymore.
Later in the series, Detective Benito Mancuso of Barcelona Police visits the island and grows close to Miranda - much to Max’s shock and sadness.
All of these events come to a head in episode eight "The Enemy Within" where an assassin is trying to assassinate a high-profile figure. In the opening of episode eight, Max is shot by an unknown figure during a party and his fate is unclear.
Max and Miranda clashed heads during the final episode with Miranda accusing Max of being too laid back and not treating his police work as seriously as her.
An emotional Miranda regrets these comments as she sees Max down on the ground. Miranda fights the assassin and the assassin is fatally shot during the brawl and Miranda is left clinging onto some ivy.
Just as Miranda is set to fall, Max arrives to pull her up and take her to safety. “I thought you were dead”, Miranda remarks. Max showed his bulletproof vest and was thankfully uninjured.
After the judge was arrested, our detective duo shared a heart-to-heart and they both apologise for their previous comments.
In a multi-layer conversation, Miranda asked: “I was wondering how it felt”
Talking about the shooting, Max remarked: “My life didn’t play like a mini-movie. But if you’re asking, did I realise what was important to me, I think so.”
An emotional Miranda looked at Max and said: “I think I did too. I mean imagine the hell of trying to get used to a new partner”
Max replied: “I honestly don’t think you could do it. Finding someone to put up with your weird little ways.”
A shocked Miranda replied: “My weird little ways?”
Miranda slides to Max and admits her bowl was broken. They smile as she puts her head on his shoulder.
What happens to Max and Miranda?
While viewers don’t get the kiss they are looking for this season, we get a clear indication that Max and Miranda deeply respect each other and there could be romantic feelings between them.
Actors Elen Rhys and Julian Looman spoke about their relationship before the season three launch and hinted they would get closer this season. Elen told Express.co.uk: “Umm… give the people what they want! I mean, I love it that people are on their side and so behind that.”
Although the Welsh detective is constantly bickering with her German partner, the investigators clearly have a lot of affection for one another.
Fans are keeping their fingers crossed for sparks to fly but, unfortunately, Elen hints they may be waiting a little longer for their relationship to develop into anything more romantic.
“I always feel like if they went there you’d probably lose the magic a little bit,” she explained.
“It’s like, you want them to get together but you want to want that, not for it to actually happen.
“It feels a bit like I don’t really know where it would go after that,” Elen added.
“Not saying it’s not possible, and it's definitely something to explore but for now I really kind of enjoy playing the will-they-won’t they and I enjoy all the obstacles that come in because it gives you a tension, something to work against. It makes it more exciting.”
While Julian chimed in: “Yeah, more exciting than seeing how they fight about who’s cleaning their rooms and all that…”
