The much-anticipated series of Vienna Blood is set to grace our screens tonight (Sunday, August 4), presenting a fresh mystery for the detectives to solve. Unlike previous seasons where each episode centred on a unique story, the two new episodes will delve into a single case, filmed in the picturesque setting of Vienna.

Entitled the Mephisto Waltz, Matthew Beard and Juergen Maurer are back in action as the crime-solving duo Doctor Max Liebermann and Detective Inspector Oskar Rheinhardt, tasked with investigating a double murder involving an arms dealer in police custody and a high-ranking public official.

Doctor Max Liebermann, fresh from a lecture tour, is called upon by Inspector Rheinhardt to assist in what could potentially be the most perilous case of their career, leading them straight to the core of the government. The question remains: who is the mole known as 'Mephisto' aiming to topple the Austro-Hungarian Empire?

The first episode is scheduled to air at 9pm this Sunday evening on BBC Two, but who can we expect to see in the latest episode and series?

Let's find out:, reports the Mirror.

Juergen Maurer plays Oskar Rheinhardt

As we enter series four, Oskar continues is faced with a challenging case. He is no longer with Therese, having been left by her at the conclusion of series four, and Oskar remains the lone wolf he has always been.

While this is Maurer's most recognised role among UK viewers, the Austrian actor is also celebrated for his performances in M A City Hunts a Murderer, In Wahrheit and Vorstadtweiber.

Speaking about his on-screen partnership, the actor shared: "The relationship between Oskar and Max has evolved over the episodes and so did our relationship as actors because we got to know each other better and we got closer. I hope I'm not exaggerating when I say we like each other very much and are good friends!".

"We also enjoy the work. It has a certain touch of being complete together and the shoot brings that too. We start shooting and we put on our costumes and stand next to each other and click clack, there we are."

Matthew Beard plays Max Liebermann

Kicking off series four, Max makes a grand return from a triumphant lecture circuit in New York, having championed Freudianism with remarkable success. Now at the helm of the Neurology department, Max's life brims with positivity.

However, he's instantly captivated when Oskar arrives with a fresh case.

Delving into the 'will they/won't they' dynamic between Max and Clara, Matthew Beard remarked: "I think it's great for an audience because you want an answer - as do the characters. But also, I think it reflects real life and relationships: taking twists and turns and nothing ever being simple."

"Their relationship also mirrors the ethos of the show which delves into complexity and psychology and the profound depths of emotion."

Matthew Beard is known for his portrayal of Peter Hilton in The Imitation Game and has graced the screen in Dracula, Magpie Murders, and Avenue 5.

Amelia Bullmore plays Rachel Liebermann

Amelia Bullmore, renowned for her roles in popular series including Happy Valley, Gentleman Jack, The Larkins, Scott and Bailey and Ashes to Ashes, portrays the character of Rachel Liebermann in Vienna Blood.

Max Liebermann's overly attentive mother, Rachel Liebermann, seems to have no greater ambition than doting on her children. Speaking of her role, Amelia revealed: "I think Rachel would risk anything for her family. I don't know what her limits would be but if her family was under threat, I think she would really be ruthless."

She added emphatically, "I think that's an area where she would be a 'she wolf', with her family. I don't think she's daring in other ways. I believe she's conventional, has a great sense of propriety and likes people to behave well."

Conleth Hill plays Mendel Liebermann

Best known for his portrayals in Game of Thrones as Varys, Pope Gregory XIII in 3 Body Problem, Carlos Santini in Derry Girls and Edward Darby in Suits, Northern Irish actor Conleth Hill adds another compelling performance to his repertoire.

Delving into his character, Hill confided: "One of the things I love about Mendel is that he does indulge his son to the extent that he will help with advice about chinoiserie, furniture, or lending clothes, pretending to bid on something he's not interested in or even allowing his home to be used as a trap to catch an intruder. He's up for everything."

Charlene McKenna plays Leah Liebermann

The fierce and passionate Irish actress Charlene McKenna graces Vienna Blood as Max's energetic older sister Leah, gearing up to leave her mark in the new series.

Charlene McKenna, known for her brief role as Captain Swing in Peaky Blinders and appearances in Ripper Street, Pure Mule, Raw and Whistleblower, plays Leah Liebermann.

When asked how does Leah feel about the dark crimes that Oskar brings into the family home, Charlene replied: Quite mixed, I think. Because the part of her that doesn't have enough of an outlet for her intelligence and maybe her creativity and need for drama...

"I think this is very titillating for that side of her and it's exciting. But the other side of the coin is concern for her brother - will he be okay? I think if Leah were to sit down with a psychologist, there would be pros and cons to unpack."

Luise von Finckh plays Clara Weiss

German actress Luise von Finckh, recognised for her roles in theatre, film, and television including Das Fest der Liebe, Bauchgefuhl Bonn and Bonn - Alte Freunde, neue Feinde, portrays Clara Weiss in Vienna Blood.

On her character, Luise said: "I feel Clara is taking every risk for her independence and her freedom that is worth taking. She broke off the engagement with Max Liebermann because she felt it wasn't right and wasn't happy with it and she started building her own career because she didn't want to depend on men."

"That's very brave for her especially at that time. Then breaking into her boss's office [this season] is also a way of trying to help a situation."

Who else stars in Vienna Blood: Mephisto Waltz?

In the latest instalment of the gripping series, viewers will see Doctor Max Liebermann and Detective Inspector Oskar Rheinhardt join forces once more as they delve into a perplexing double homicide involving an arms dealer who was under police guard and a high-ranking government official. They soon uncover a web of intrigue bubbling at the very centre of governmental power but can they crack the case before it's too late?

Meanwhile, Oskar grapples with a broken heart caused by his most recent love interest, who shockingly had a secret spouse. The burning question remains, will Max and Clara eventually find their way to each other?

A snippet from the BBC tantalisingly hints: "It's Vienna, 1909 and the double murder of an arms dealer in police custody and a senior public official has shaken Vienna to its core. Doctor Max Liebermann has only just returned from a lecture tour when Inspector Rheinhardt asks for help in what could be the most dangerous case of their career. Oskar and Max discover a conspiracy that leads to the heart of government."

"Can the Freudian psychoanalyst and detective do enough to stop a seditious mole known as 'Mephisto' from bringing the Austro-Hungarian Empire to destruction? And will their lives ever be the same again? ".
