Andrea Jenkyns and Gemma Forte clash over Brexit

Channel 5 show Jeremy Vine turned very heated as Dame Andrea Jenkyns and Jemma Forte clashed over Brexit and whether it had worked for Great Britain.

Former MP Jenkyns said: "We had to fight for democracy for the 17 and a half million people who voted to leave, we had to fight against our own party," as Forte retorted: "Well we've left now, how has it gone?"

Jenkyns immediately clapped back: "The fact is, you're just a remoaner who hasn't accepted the result understandably."

Forte responded: "No the result happened, and it is rubbish, it is, we've got this massive deficit, the polls show it..." as Jenkyns slammed her claims as "rubbish".

Forte ranted: "The polls show differently, that is why everyone up north vote Labour and not conservative, they leant their vote to Johnson because he promised the earth, he promised it would be great for the economy."

Jenkyns was quick to shut her down, as she stated: "Can I just say, this is rubbish what you're talking about Labour, the person who stood against me, their vote went down by about a thousand, it was about 12% down on turnout, and Reform split the vote, and it was like that around the country, so Labour got in by default."

Vine was forced to keep Forte quiet as she begged him to ask something else, as he said: "No hang on, do you think Brexit has gone well?" as he turned to Jenkyns.

She replied: "I think it wasn't only the civil service, it was Bercow in parliament, it was the remainers, it was even Keir Starmer trying to stop Brexit, it really was... oh my God," as Forte interrupted her again.

As Forte claimed: "It was an 80 seat majority and the reason why it didn't work was because no one was agreed..." Jenkyns was quick to put her in her place as she reminded her Theresa May failed to secure a majority during the 2017 election, and had to secure a deal with the DUP of Northern Ireland.

She continued: "It was hard to deliver the full Brexit that we all wanted... we shouldn't be tied to the EU at all in my opinion, it is about global Britain."

Forte ranted in the background: "How has that gone, how has that gone?"

Clearly growing tired of the heated debate, Jenkyns simply said: "e are never going to agree on this... you just epitomise sour grape remainers... we'll have to agree to disagree", as Jemma admitted she was feeling sour grapes about the result.

Fans rushed to social media to back Jenkyns, as one said: "Andrea is spot on!!!" as another added: "Well done Andrea, keep it up girl."

A third ranted: "Andrea genuinely sharing her experiences/truths about what actually happened - shouted down by a no-mark leftover who misquotes facts; wasn’t there & doesn’t even listen enough to learn."

A fourth agreed: "Democracy is not repeating votes over and over until you get the result you want."

A previous article reported comments made by Andrea Jenkyns on the show that she had referred to Meghan Markle's mum Andrea Jenkyns has since asked us to make clear that this was misheard, and that she actually referred to a hat as a "muff". We are happy to clarify this.
