Former Strictly Come Dancing star Bill Bailey has had his show scrapped after one series. The 59-year-old was crowned winner of the BBC series alongside Oti Mabuse in 2020.

Bill's BBC show, Bring the Drama, debuted earlier this year and featured a plethora of celebrity guests. The six-episode series followed eight budding performers mentored by distinguished casting director Kelly Valentine Hendry.

It gave aspiring actors the chance to fulfil their dreams and land small roles in popular BBC shows. The group were also invited onto the sets of hit dramas such as Peaky Blinders, Silent Witness, and EastEnders.

They had success once the series ended, with several participants securing parts on television. However, some won't get the opportunity as TV Zone recently announced that Bring the Drama has been cancelled.

A BBC spokesperson confirmed: "There are no current plans for another series of Bring the Drama on the BBC." Celebrity appearances on the show included EastEnders actress Natalie Cassidy, who has played Sonia Fowler for more than three decades, and Line of Duty's Rochenda Sandall.

Bill previously opened up about his Strictly win, revealing that his family never anticipated his success in the competition. Reflecting on his underdog journey, Bill recalled how his father had initially pegged him as "the Ann Widdecombe contestant" of the 2020 series, doubting his advancement in the competition.

In a previous interview with the Irish Independent, Bill disclosed that his family expected his BBC stint to be light-hearted and brief. He said: "You know, the kind of contestant who just shuffles around for a bit and people have a laugh, and that's it."

Yet, as the competition continued, his father became one of his most enthusiastic supporters. Bill shared: "The image of him on his own in his house going, 'Yes!' made the whole thing worthwhile for me."

Bill formed a close friendship with Oti, 34, during their time on the show. Earlier this year, the comedian voiced hopes that Oti would come and watch his Thoughtifier comedy tour.

The musician said: "We’ve been in touch and I congratulated her on the baby and her new projects, and hopefully she'll come see the show."
