Carol Vorderman chats about Labour with LBC caller

Carol Vorderman shared her concern during a candid phone-in on LBC after a caller named Annie said she is "incandescent" that Labour "iniquitously" cut the pensioners' winter credit. She and her partner are just above the threshold and will miss out despite being disabled.

The caller said she "couldn't believe" the Labour government would put forward this budget plan and shared her worry that many pensioners may not make it through the winter season if they have to choose between heating or food.

She concluded: "They've turned themselves into the new nasty party, even the Tories didn't do this."

Social media users flocked to comment on the post as some took aim at Carol who had been vocal in her support in the run-up to the election to vote in a Labour government.

One person penned: "Carol spent all her time promoting the Labour Party and now her beloved government has thrown our pensioners under the bus. Nice one Vorders."

Another chimed in: "Didn't Carol tell everyone to get out and vote for them too? She's accountable."

A third wrote: "You were warned Carol, like in his leadership campaign he said he'd do anything to win, then reneged on his pledges, likewise in this election, well done, Carol."

"Watching Carol itching to jump in and excuse this Labour shambles is quite amusing," a fourth remarked.

Another argued: "Sadly, it’s what Annie voted for. Many of us warned of the dangers of a Labour govt, but were ignored. This is just the beginning."(sic)

A fifth person assured: "If she's disabled she should qualify for some kind of benefit and therefore still receive the Winter Fuel Allowance."

It comes as Rachel Reeves warned “more difficult choices” are coming after axing winter fuel payments for many pensioners in a bid to help plug a £22bn black hole in the public finances.

The chancellor unveiled plans to tackle the projected overspend, including cuts to infrastructure projects and an end of winter fuel payments for people not in receipt of means-tested benefits.
